Mission:
It was one fine day when the weasel Stoutclaw washed up on the docks
from
a colony to the south. He reported the area completely destroyed by a
huge,
unidentified beast, to horrible to let live, yet to strong and powerful
to
bring down. Many of the colonists living on the island where this took
place were either very young or old, so the few able fighters had to
not
only watch their backs but to protect others. Stoutclaw reported being
knocked unconcious and wakening some time after the attack. Striking
out
from the island he didn't make it to Sampetra for three days.
Obviousley
delerious, we waited a few days for him to become stable and then got
every
piece of information we could. The attack, which happened at night,
was
while everybody was asleep, noting that the beast was probably
calculating
and intelligent. Next, all that Stoutclaw remembered seeing is the
initial
attack, meaning that the "huge beast" might have been a diversion.
Because
we had no other information, we decided to set out to the colony and
see for
ourselves what the problem was. Setting out for Southern waters in the
good
ship Deathsail with 30 other able beasts, we took stock of what we were
up
against. Some others that were with me included; Akiskio, a newbie,
but
seemingly able for the job. He is a ferret like myself. Dingeye, a
veteran
stoat. He's been around longer than most of us and carries a cutlass,
and
because of this I place him as second-in-command. Shadow the Weasel,
an
expert with throwing knives and carries a katana. A big black female
wolf
that carries a batle axe, whos name is Rage. Last but not least,
Rippclaw,
a ferret that can lay away anybeast with her sabre. These beasts, my
hand
picked Lts., each in control of a small band of 5, will scout around
the
island and will report back to myself and Stoutclaw once we reach our
destination. (Time Passes) We have reached the island, and now my
leuitenants with their groups will scout the island. myself, along
with
three others and Stoutclaw stayed on the ship as a homebase. Soon it
was
sunset, and my groups came back to report to me, but Akiskio's group
did
not. We became worried. The next day, Dingeye's group stayed behind
and
the rest o us went out and scouted the island once again. At mid-nnon
we
found Akiskio's group, dead. I went to the fallen lt., for he was
alive,
barely. He spoke of a giant rumble and then arrows cutting them down
on the
open. He caught glimpse of a badger but he wasn't sure. Then he
passed
out. We took him back to the ship Deathsail and laid him down until
the
others arrived. Still nothing. We all decided to call it a night, and
soon
everybody was asleep, even the sentries. That's when we heared it.
THUD.
THUD. CRUNCH. I stood up stock still, and I leaned over the railings.
On
the beach was the most hideous thing I had ever witnessed! The tail of
a
huge dragon had whipped out and severed the rudder of the ship, and now
the
dragon, taking notice of us, began to attack! I called everyone awake,
and
soon arrows, stones, and javelins were hurled at the beast, but to no
avail.
the body and head came into view. Something struck me; why was there no flesh covering the skull? A closer look revealed a badger inside the giant costume! Firing an arrow into the narrow crevive at the badger made him yelp, and soon the beach bore witness to the dragon spliting apart and a squad of Salamandastron Hares bursting out. From this point of view it was easy to see that the giant monster was merely a "Trojan Horse" and goodbeasts attacked us from the safety within. Leaping into the shallows, our still-strong force charged the hares into open ground. A small, feirce battle took place, and soon the Hares were running for the center of the island. The badger stood his ground. Flailing madly, he charged our ranks, but was soon cut down by the skull of the dragon from which he attacked us from. Dingeye, under a mad rage, lifted to the skull from the beach and flung it at the badger lord, who crashed into it and was horribly impaled. The rest of the night was spent killing off the rest of the hares and destroying what was once the Salamandastron voyagers camp. Dingeye, half crushed by his mad attack on the badger, was in as bad of a condition as Akiskio, so we left for home the next dawn, only to return the next summer for the rebuilding of the colony that once stood there.
