Mission 391
by Anguirus of the Salazar

Mission:
In the past few weeks, a strange sickness has begun to appear among the troops. They become violently ill, vomiting and in severe pain for about 48 hours and are then recovered fully. All of the food has been checked by our cooks and slaves. No poison is in the food. This leads many to believe that a sickness is spreading among us, but that theory has been well tested, and it's not contagious. Another interesting note is that many small broken wood kegs have been found on the shores by our guards. After showing them to their CO, he ALSO became ill. Closer investigation (which resulted in the investigators being infected) revealed traces of powder in the kegs. We now believe that someone, or something, has been tossing these kegs from a ship or boat, and the kegs burst and the powder is released, which infects the troops. If this keeps up, our forces will be on reduced status, as almost half of them at any one time are ill. Get to the bottom of this situation. Sai! l to the corners of the world and travel overland until you reach the land of silk and oil. Just end this awful plauge!

Taken from the journal of Liutenent Commander Anguirus of the Salazar. Dawn- This morning I received word of the recent plague. Somehow barrels of poisonous powder have been dropped apon the isle. I was ordered to stop the bringers of this plague. I now leave to get a crew. Hopefully they have been infected before. If I am right, once infected one can not be infected again. This may be wrong. If it is, then I and the crew are most likely doomed.-end journal. Anguirus dressed and headed towards the nearest tavern. Apon entering he saw most of the beasts were infected. He put a rag to his nose, and proceeded to the next tavern. He entered. It didn't seem any were infected here. They must be distancing from each other he thought. He banged his fist on a table, to get the corsairs attention. "I need a crew of two score beasts. Half once infected with this plague and the other half not infected." Some shofiling could be heard and a lean grey fox stood up. "I'm not goin' on no ship with infected plague barriers!" the fox growled. Anguirus licked his lips, thinking of something to say that would convince the fox. "The mission is to cure the plague. I need beast that were ONCE infected. That they may handle any disease. You will be safe from the plague I assure you." The fox pondered this. "Alright, but how much gold am I gettin'?" Anguirus glance became like fire staring at the fox. "To end this epidemic is enough is it not? Would you rather die because you're to sick to defend your self?" The fox nodded dumbly. "Aye, I guess your right. I'll go with yee. Any beast else comin'?" The tavern beasts all stood up. A few stated that they were once infected. Some cried "for ublaz and the isle". Whatever they said Anguirus didn't care, he had his crew.

Afternoon-That afternoon we set sail. I had over a score of healthy bests and enough infected beasts to get my plan carried out. By this evening we should see if there is anything peculair.-end journal.

Anguirus stared out at the open see. His clothing swirling from the sea breeze. A stump little stoat walked up to him. "Uh, cap'in? Beast in the crows nest says he see's somethin'." Anguirus nodded towards the stoat and walked over to the crows-nest. A keen eyed ferret sat in the crows-nest. He had his eye on something. Anguirus yelled up at the ferret. "What do you see?" The ferret looked down towards Anguirus and yelled back. "I think I see's a skiff! North west o' 'ear! About a one fifhtieth of a league!" Anguirus smiled. "Alright you heard him! Set sails due North west!" The ship bustled with activity as the crew started dropping the sails. The ship lurched as the wind blew the sails open. The ship moved towards the skiff. Anguirus could see the skiff clearly now. "Alright drop sails!" The ermine leaned over the mast head to enspect the skiff. There he saw three rats, all in sampetran clothing. Sick as dogs. Vomiting occasionally over the edge of the ship. He smirked. "Alright get a ship down there. Two once infected beasts!" A boat was sent down to the skiff. It crashed into the water and the small crew roared over to it. Anguirus watched as the three rats half heartedly try to get awat. To sick to do anything. The two infected beasts jumped aboard the skiff and tied a rope to their boat. Anguirus watched them toss the sick beasts onto their raft. Then one of them spotted something. The beast picked it up. It was a barrel! Anguirus yelled out. "What is it?" The beast holding it, a female weasel replied. "Says here that it's liverwort, and some kinda mushrooms. I can't pronunce them! I think this is the stuff!" Anguirus yelled out again. "Good, don't bring those rats up here I don't want them getting the crew sick! I'll interogate them from here!" The weasel nodded and put the barrel back down. She grabbed a rat by his ear and pointed anguirus out to him. Anguirus smiled. "Alright rat! Why are you dressed in sampetran clothing?" The rat coughed. The weasel slapped him to talk. The rat spoke weakly. "We was getting'; even with ublaz. He says we gotta pay for lumber. My mate says *cough* that we pay him back. Says his mum used to make poisons. So he makes up a lot's of this powder. Says get every beast sick. *hack* We through the stuff on the isle and we took off in this skif. Thing was our food and gotten infected with the powder." The rat then stopped and vomited on himself. The weasel was repulsed but got him to talk again. "We try to get to an isle but they won't take us when we get there. Says we would kill 'em all. So they tossed us out to sea again." Anguirus thought this over. "Alright".said anguirus "Alright throw the rats in their skiff. Get back to the ship. We'll leave them here. On seconed though. Unload that powder on them. See how they fair without rations and bein' sick. " He smirked. Knowing all to well that the rats would never survive.

Dawn- We have returned to the isle. I was right about once being infected you couldn't get infected again. The rats have been punished and the plague has been delt with. Weith only three lives taken by this sickness.-end journal.
