Mission 419
by Sabre the Great

Mission:
Recruits have said to be seeing ghosts in our area of Sampetra. They say they are everywhere. They're long black shadows that run like the wind, that they cann't be caught. Find out who these figures are, for they have already killed Ublaz's left wing Skullface! When you get them have them beheaded. Or I will have you beheaded...

.....The notice in the tavern for missions caught my eye, I also noticed Slakemite the ferret eyeing it aswell. Casually I walked up to her, pawing my sabre just incase anything rough turned out. "Looks hard, doont ya tink?" Slakemite turned to me and said, "I reckons I could take her on an' do it in less thanhalf a season!" "Really?" I exclaimed, "Just watched me!" She said and took the pen to sign. Swiftly I unsheathed my blade and as she raised her paw to sign, I cut it off making it fall to the floor with the pen still firmly grasped inside. Slakemite screamed with pain and looked her arm dripping with blood. "How aboot aye donte!" I exclaimed, picking up the pen from the lifeless paws and I signed my name to request the mission. Slakemite ran off, screaming out her pain in high squeals and shrieks. I just laughed and walked away, noticing all the vermin in the tavern were staring at me and the bloodpool with the dead paw sitting in the middle onthe ground.

After a few days of eating and gloating over my triumph over Slakemite, I finally got a call from the emporers castle on top of the hill at the corner of Sampetra. It over-looked all of Sampetra, you could see every part of the large island, from the many taverns down the hill on the left, to the fires on the right, and the feilds behind them. The wide beachfron't is off to the far right, about 20 different kinds of ships are anchored there. Next to them is a large Jetty, set there for other ships to come and stay for as long as Ublaz wishes them to leave. As I walked into the entrance, I noticed Ublaz's monitors hissing at me. They are kept in large barracks for if they were released, all the vermin on the island would perish and cease to exist. Walking up the long stairs to Ublaz's room, I passed a large painting in the hallway. It was of Ublaz, sitting at a long table with robes, jewels and earings covering his body. He was holding a beaker full of red wine, with a baby monitor at his side, and a menacing snarl on his face. But his eyes were the most peircing picture of all. Magic from over seas made his eyes hypnotyse anyone who dared to look into them. Looking at them now it felt like they had a trance on me. Slowely moving to the doors of his room. I knocked loudly on them, the noise booming down the hall. "Come in!" Yelled Ublaz, his voice strong and impatient. "Good morn; tae ee master" I said to him, staring into his eyes, having no control over my own mind. "I s'pose you want to know if you got your mission you requested for Sabre?" "Yes sire," I stuttered. Ublaz stood up from the table he was sitting at and opened his door again. "Well go an do it before I change my mind and feed you to my monitors!" He yelled at me and I ran out of the room, stumbling down the stairs.

Gathering a score of vermin around a fire, I told them all about the black shadows and the slaying of Skullface. Giving them half a day to ask around about any imformation on them, I went off searching in the sand hills to investigate for myself Scanning the hills, I saw nothing but sunbleached-white sand, everywhere I looked it was there, the hot, dry biterness of dunes. Far away just bearly noticable, I could make out green hills. Moving to the beachside, I decided to walk along it to see if I could find any of these black shadows others call 'ghosts'. I am not that stupid, they have to be something. Walking along,I noticed a dark shape, clear in sight. Running to the nearest dip in a dune to hide myself from veiw, I crept closer, cautiously dragging my body across the dunes. Getting close enought to make out the figure, I saw a black shape bending over to dip a clump of foul smelling plants I could smell from where I was into the sea. This must of been the 'ghost' people talk of. Kreeping up behind it, I slowely moved into the water, trying not to splash. Drawing my sabre, I tensed to jump when the creature spun aroung and hit me hard across the head with the foul smelling substance. Groggy from the plants, I quikly turned around to avenge myself on the creature, I roared and lounged for him. Splash! Lifting my head from the salty water I looked up and realised the creature was running to shore, fast as anything i have never seen before. Getting up hurridly, I sped after the beast, running in the same direction as it. Seeing the creature run I realised i was going to lose anyway, but as I watched it get away, I noticed that it ran straight into a sand dune. Seeing as though he might of hurt himself, I ran to the dune, hopeing to find him there. But unfortunately, he was gone. Confused, I leant onto the sand dune scratching my head. Suddenly, the sand moved away from my arm and revealed a large wooden door. Pushing the door, it moved slightly away and I peeked inside the dark opening. Inside, I could see dirt. It must be a tunnel of some kind. Noting the place of this door, I marked it with a stick on top of the sand dune aswell just incase so I could come back to it.

Reaching the fires by night-fall, I found my group of spies and sat down to ask them about anything they could find on the black shadows. Many of them hadinformation. "Ripptooth says ee saw em take food from the kitchenin the castle!" "I heard they runs around stealin' others loot and killing all our birds so there's none for us!" "Tis' awful mateys, Bloodclaw says ee was there when they took poor old Skullface.

They had drugged him with some kind off plant that smelled awful! Then they dragged him away to kill him. Grusom mateys." I grabbed the stoat that had just spoken, "Foul smellyne plants yer saye? What kind of plants?" I asked him. He leant forward and said "Black green and brown ones sir, all smellin horrible, like i never smelled before. They knocked him out easy with one wif." Another rat came up to me and said, "I smelt em too. Thought i could find something about it in the little book storage we stole from other beasts. I found something very odd about them ghosts. They live unnerground and run crazy like, terrorizing all that went near them. They are called Flitchaye and they run arounds knocking people out with herbs that they crush together and make an awful smell. They are mostly just little weasul's, but they cover themselves with grass and leaves and anything they can get to so they can camouflage themseles from other beasts. Dunno how they got to Sampetra though, somebeast might a brought em hear for slaves and they got away." "Thank yae Seabeast, go and get yer some food for yerself, anybeastie who tries tae mess with yae, bring him to me, " I said to the rat and dismissed the other spies.

The next morning, I found myself lying in my cabin with hot food at my table. Opening my eyes I quickly shut them back as I realised another being was in here with me. Opening them slightly, I saw the beast was one of the Flitchaye that I had seen yesturday, he had his back to me and he was eating my food and as he was about to pick up my sabre, I lunged for him with deadly accuracy and sunk my claws into his back, laying him face down onto the ground. "What'r yae dooen here weasul?" I groweled at him behind a row of teeth. He spoke in the most curius manner. "I'm a norra doin any'ing, I justa takin a scann o de cabin." Digging my claws deeper into his back, I leant in to his ear and growled, "What are yae?" "Imma Flitchaye, more will come an'a killee you for this!" I lifted the weasul up and as I forced my sabre into his gut I said, "No, I'm gooen to get yae and the rest of yae! Now, If yae can find the strength tae get back tae yae pack, Tell em' I'm coomin for them!" Moving up to deck, I threw him into the shallow water, leaving his carcars to float back to his other Flitchaye.

After a delayed breakfast, I set out with 2score vermin to find the tunnel I found earlier and to hunt down the Flitchaye. When I reached the tunnel, there were two Flitchaye standing outside the door, conversing over food. "I tinka we should gerret food from tha castle agin! They gots good food." "Nah, we go finda food inna mountains, it be easier!" Slowely advancing on the pair, I manouvered my troops into a circle so that they were surrounded, trying to keep out of sight from the pair on the sand. Drawing my sabre, I pounced on one of them, startling the other which turned around to flee when my troops grabbed him and brought him to me. "What 'r yae beesness doin on island of Ublaz? Speek yae foul beasties!" I declared, bringing my sabre to the throat of the one I held. He stuttered under the pressure of my blade resting firmly against his throat, "Weema come here by orders offa Foghead, da master offa Flitchaye. Weema come to killee you!" Gripping his jaw with my claws i brought my sabre down to his stomach and said, "Naye weasul, we going tae kill you!" With that I thrust my sabe into his bellie and did the same to his friend. Moving my troops into the tunnel, we ran through the darkness, moving along the side of the wall. Seeing light ahead, we moved in that direction, but as we reached it we found that we had come to a stop. There was a big cavern with the Flitchaye all around it, talking in their odd fashion. Turning to see us, I yelled at the top of my voice as my group advanced on them, "CHAAAAAAAARGE!" Giving the Flitchaye no time to retaliate, we advanced on them in a circle, forcing them into the middle of the cavern, where there was a large fire, they either stood to fight back or die in the flames. Seeing a large weasul moving away from the group, I could tell it was there leader. Grabbing a spear from a nearby rat, I threw it at the weasul, hitting home directly into his chest. Seeing their leader fall, the Flitchaye lost hope of winning the fight and we dragged the remaining Flitchaye outside to be dealt with.

Laying them all in a line, I got each one to wear a noose around there neck which was attached to every Flitchaye. All of the weasuls, now stripped of nothing but rags to wear, were all balancing along the side of the deck. Seeing as they were all tied together, I figured if one was to fall, the rest would go with him, hanging them all in one go. It wasn't long before a petrefied weasul colasped and brought them all screaming down upon their necks which was being strangled by the nooses. After they had all died from suffocation, I cut them down and threw there bodies into the sea, letting them drift off with the tide. And that was the end of our Flitchaye incident.
