Mission:
I had heard the stories Glikara and Bacheru coming to the isle. They
always had shady looks in their eyes, and no matter how hard I tried I
just couldn't trust them. Bacheru had gotten into a brawl with me at the
tavern Fatrat over a peach brandy and tried to twist my neck, so I
didn't think that he was a very calm and collected beast. Glikara seemed to
be a nice-enough ferretmaid, and she kept trying to win my trust. But
before she had sworn to serve Ublaz she tried to steal my money pouch,
so she didn't seem too trustworthy. And then after a few days of being
Ublaz's servants they became prime suspects in the case of the thefts
and murders all over Sampetra. I felt it was my duty to take up this case
after what both beasts had done to me in the past. I grabbed my
supplies and walked out into the bustling Sampetran streets towards the palace.
I inspected the bodies of the dead trident rats, taking notice of their
severely twisted necks. Since it would take a fairly large beast to
spin a trident rat's head completely around twice, I charted all of the
big beasts with criminal records and picked out the to neck twisters who
had recently been arrested: Bacheru the ferret and Margron the fox. I
went down to the dungeons and scheduled individual meetings with both
beasts for the following day, and then requested a dozen trident rats
from Bloodspray to use as restrainers. I had the trident rats sleep in the
debriefing room I had picked out for Bacheru and Margron. I myself
stayed awake and went over to the scenes of the series of thefts on the
isle. There were many beasts who could have been stealing valuable items
from Ublaz and the high-ranking officials in the imperial navy, so I
decided that I would worry more about the thefts later and return to the
murder cases. I went on board the Shadowspawn and grabbed my sheathed
scimitar from the treasure chest I keep it in. I shrugged into the sash the scabbard is attached to
and headed back towards the debriefing room. I stayed awake for a good
three hours, then fell asleep on the floor next to a few of the snoring
trident rats.
When I awoke, it was early morning. I woke the trident rats and fetched
the two prisoners in question. The rats brought in Margron first and
threw his struggling body to the floor in front of me. I kicked him over
and started asking him questions about the murders and thefts. He said
that he had nothing to do with them, but I didn't think he was telling
the truth. I looked deeply into his eyes and he tried to avert his
gaze. For the few moments that I looked into his eyes I saw no sign of
lying or treachery, so I led him gruffly back to the prison and threw him
as hard as I could into his cell. I had the rats bring Bacheru into the
debriefing room. They held him at bay with their tridents while I
kicked and slapped him around the room, asking him questions about the
murders and if he had any connections with them. I looked into his eyes as
well and knew he was hiding something. I knew that what he was hiding
from me had something to do with the murders, but I didn't know if he was
the killer involved in them or not. As I motioned to the trident rats to take Bacheru back to his
cell, I noticed the shadow of a moving beast behind me. It raised a
knife, so I spun around quickly, grabbed the knife arm of the assailant and
twisted it behind the beast's back. The beast turned out to be Glikara.
I twisted her arm harder, snarled and clamped a paw over her mouth to
keep her from screaming. I brought my mouth close to her ear and asked
her if she was involved with the thefts. She had tears streaming down
her face and paused for a moment, then shook her head. I knew she was
lying, so I twisted her arm harder and harder until her shoulder snapped
out of its socket. Glikara screamed in agony and kept yelling, "It was
me!" I figured that since Glikara turned out to be the original thief
that Bacheru had to be the original murderer. I stamped my footpaw down
on Glikara's dislocated arm, then dragged her to her mate's cell and
threw her into it beside him. That was when I boarded the Shadowspawn and
wrote my report for the emperor.
