Flower heads are commonly eaten as a vegetable.
Traditionally used as a tonic and to aid digestion.

Extract of leaves and root are said to be helpful in prventing
arteriosclerosis and have been used for; jaundice, dyspepsia,
liver insuffiency, chronic albuminuria and postoperative anemia.

Helps the heart by lowering cholesterol.

How much is usually taken?
The suggested adult amount of the standardized leaf extract
is 300–640 mg three times daily for a minimum of six weeks.

Alternatively, if a standardized extract is not available,
the amount of the crude, dried leaves is 1–4 grams, three times a day.
