Horseradish
armoracia lapathifolia
Cruciferae

Post Horseradish with Thyme next to it.

A note for the allergies. try grating fresh
horseradish root and inhaling the vapors
(not to deeply it's very strong)
but it will clear the sinuses at least temporarily while waiting
for something else to kick in.

Also a steaming might help hot water in a bowl under a towel,
add some peppermint oil and breath in with the head under the towel.
It might loosen up breathing a little anyway and it will smell better
than the horseradish.

PREPERATIONS
Only undried horseradish is effective.
Root can be preserved fresh for months in a refrigerator or packed
in damp sand and kept in a cool place.
Horseradish taken in any form can be made more palatable
with sugar or honey.

EXTERNALLY
Horseradish is used as an irritant to stimulate blood flow;
can be made into a poultice for rheumatism and into a bath
additive for childblains.

VINEGAR
Cover finely grated horseradish with vinegar and let stand 10 days.
Take 1 teaspoon, 2-3 times daily, well diluted with water.
This can be applied externally.

POULTICE
Spread fresh, grated root on linen cloth.
Lay on affected area, with cloth against skin, until burning sensation is felt.

SYRUP
Steep 1 teaspoon root
in one half cup boiling-hot water in covered pot 2 hours.
Strain and add sugar until a syrupy consistency is reached.
