Sweet Marjoram oreganum marjorana Common Wild Marjoram origanum majorana Labiatae Herb Garden Perennial The Wild or Field Marjoram has a creeping underground root, which throws up hard brownish square stalks with small dark green leaves and tufts of purplish-red flowers. Sow seed in April. Marjoram grows from rooted cuttings. Marjoram is slow to mature but if sown in a sunny position it should flower during its first summer. It can be grown in a container. Marjoram grows to a height of 45cm. Flowering time: Late summer. Often confused with oregano which is a member of the Marjoram Family. Where to find it: Borders of cornfields and well-drained stony soil. |
