As Yusuke and Kurama approached the scene of the train wreckage, they were inundated with the sights and noise associated with such a catastrophe. People were shouting back and forth, lights were flashing, metal grated against metal as the rescue crews tore into the cars trying to free survivors. Slipping through the crowd, eluding the watching security people, the Spirit Detective and his companion managed to quickly locate the car in which Koenma had been riding. Just as it had shown on the television reports, the young god lay unconscious and bleeding, the lower half of his body trapped in the twisted metal.
Yusuke shook his head and started towards his friend when he felt a hand on his shoulder. With a disgusted glare, he turned to Kurama impatiently. "He needs help," was all the sixteen-year-old said.
His red-haired friend nodded. "Yes, but you cannot help if you injure yourself, Yusuke. The car is precariously balanced and may slip. It is perhaps the reason no one's rescued him so far, despite being able to see him clearly."
"Hey, guys." Kazuma had jogged up from another direction, answering the call he'd received minutes before from Kurama. "The police let me through when I told them I was rescue trained." The teen had lied to the officers, but had felt it was appropriate, since he already knew exactly why he'd been called in. "So, we need to get Lord Koenma and quick before someone sees him, right?"
The pair turned to the larger teen, ignoring the grim scene around them. With a gesture of one hand, the raven-haired Spirit Detective grunted. "So, think you can hold up a train?" There was a very long pause as Yusuke tried to think of a real plan and an even longer pause before he became aware that one of his companion redheads had left his side.
Over by the train, Kurama was kneeling down and working on something just next to the precarious wreckage. Neither Yusuke nor Kuwabara could see what the teen was up to, but as Kurama was over three-hundred-years old, at least his fox-demon soul was, he went unchallenged. When he shimmied backwards a bit, eyes closed and hand outstretched in deep concentration, the darker teen got an idea.
"I think he planted something."
The guess was accurate. Utilizing his vast Spirit Energy, the redhead was nourishing a small but sturdy tree he'd started. It was growing quickly, and fortunately unnoticed in the commotion. As Kurama concentrated, the other two hurried over to be ready to aid the injured former prince. Somehow it felt like forever and merely breaths rolled into one very intense moment. Finally, the tree seemed large enough to support at least part of the weight of the debris. If they were careful…
"Now!" Yusuke closed his eyes, taking his cue from the calm redhead by his feet, and stretched out his vaunted spirit-powers. Hell, he hadn't inherited a world of energy from Genkai for nothing! "Now, Kuwabara!"
"Oh! Uh, right, Uremeshi!" The tallest boy knelt by the bleeding teen and started to tug him free. He could feel the combined Spirit Energy of his friends, one nourishing the tree, the other helping to push back the great weight of the dilapidated train. He knew that the other boys could only hold on for so long, so Kuwabara decided to ignore any injuries, visible or otherwise, and drag the unconscious former prince out from the jagged, twisted metal.
When he was clear, the others released their own psychic holds. The train wobbled a bit, but fortunately Kurama's tree was now strong and tall. It held and the trio hurried away, bearing the limp weight of their friend. They brought him directly to ...
