“Straight Priorities” or “The Humanist Environmentalist” -1/06/04

The Earth reflects a fearsome beauty well,
So green in leaf and clear in sky and air.
Thence we can hear it Heaven’s secrets tell,
And it was given us for love and care.

The beasts remind us of the One who made,
The dove and lion, and the mule and mare.
The Lord, He looked on them in Eden’s Glade,
And they were given us for love and care.

But those He saw, once made, and loved the most,
With all their flaws and darknesses laid bare,
The flesh and bone raised over Heaven’s Host:
Our kind was given foremost to our care.

So if by death of ev’ry forest chaste,
One human life was saved, t’would not be waste.
