Big Rock, Malibu

Address:  19800 Pacific Coast Highway (approx),  Malibu

Thomas Brothers Map: LA   630, A-6

Gather at : Vacant lot between row of houses approxmately 1/4 mile south
of Big Rock Canyon Rd.   Lot is marked by brown wood house on
the north and a pink stuco home to the south. (see above)

Type of Beach: Sandy beach with submerge rocks at shoreline.

Average Depth:  15-35'

Parking:  This is a small spit of land 15' above the beach.  The lot holds
approximately 3 cars with more parking on PCH south of lot.

Facilities:  None (The nearest chemical toilets are at Las Tunas
Beach
approx 1 mile south).  Malibu Divers (dive shop) is located
approxmately 2 miles north.

Special Notes:  This is an alternate spot for us, but not a new dive for
anyone who has dived with us here before.  The former
meeting spot was too restricted with one parking space and
put us too close to PCH for suiting up.  This is the best
access for this site.  Also note, this USED to be known as
"The Secret Spot" and we were sworn to secrecy for years
until California Diving News wrote it up a few years ago!  Near Las Tunas,
the area provides several reefs within a 5 - 10 minute swim from shore
just beyond the partially submerged.   Beach alternates from mostly sand to
all rock throughout the year largely depending on storm activity moving thousands
of cubic yards away from shore.
