Meeting Maggie - Introduction

Following is the story of the referral of my daughter Maggie and our trip to China in May of 1999.

Fri., April 9, 1999 - I received the CALL while driving to Palestine, TX for a wedding. I had been tipped off that the call might come that day, so I had my cell phone on. About a half an hour into the trip, the phone rang, just outside of Waxahachie, TX. Denise, from CCAI, told that my daughter's name was Lou Shan, that she was born August 12, 1998, and that she was living in the town of Loudi in the Hunan Province.

I had brought my laptop computer with me also, knowing that I would want to get on the Internet if the call came that weekend. My agency e-mailed Lou Shan's referral photo to me within hours and then sent a package to me in Palestine via Express mail with Lou Shan's medical information, photo, and an acceptance letter that I was to sign and return ASAP. I received the package on Sunday morning at the antique store that was run by the owner of the bed and breakfast where I stayed.

Several weeks later I received the following two updated photos:

People told me that the wait between the referral call and travel was the hardest part of the wait and I believe they were right. Slightly less than six weeks after receiving Lou Shan's referral, I was scheduled to leave for China!
