A) A new effort to improve communications with all members will be established including a listserv and a formal website for CHE.

B) Chairs representing faculty/staff from participating institutions were identified for SDSU, UCSD, USD, San Diego Mesa College, Southwestern Community College, Vacant-CSU San Marcos.

C) Meetings will be set with partner institutions to discuss their annual reporting responsibilities that will permit CHE to both acknowledge their efforts in support of Latino educational advancement and to raise concerns regarding current practices that are detrimental to our community. In addition, a method (report card) for systemizing the evaluation and assessment of all practices to meet the expectations of the Latino Master Plan will be developed.

D) Report on success at campuses:

    1. SDSU Spanish Department and academic policy that impacted Spanish- speaking Latinos in terms of academic credit. CHE presented concerns and managed to have the policy reversed.
    2. Mesa College President, Constance Carol, acknowledge the importance of a new Chicano Studies position to serve as a replacement for a recent retirement.
    3. Ethnic Studies emphasis has been established at USD.

      New Business:

      1. Follow-up with Mesa College President regarding position and physical space.
      2. Address SDSU’s reluctance to serve local students as demonstrated by distributed materials to the CSU and state legislature.
      3. Established next meeting at Mesa on December 1, 2001. Time and meeting room to be announced.
      4. Attend December 8, 2001 at UCSD to provide input on UC admission practices.
