Daniel Francis Noel O'Donnell, was born in the beautifull village of Kincasslagh, County Donegal, North West Ireland on December 12th 1961. Known locally as Daniel Bosco. He is the youngest of five children, brothers John and James, and sisters Margo and Kathleen. Their father died when Daniel was only six years old. Leaving their mother to bring them up on her own. Daniel attended the Belcruit National School and he went back a few years ago to open a school extension. This was a special occasion as Daniel presented the school with his Gold disc, " Follow Your Dream" Daniel told them, " Because that's what I did" |

From the family home you could enjoy the scenic view of Errigal Moutain, Ireland's second highest Peak, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Kincasslagh is like any other Irish village in that it has a bar, a post office and a local shop, ( Cope ) Where Daniel worked when he was nine. The beaches were the childrens playground, Daniel sang as a choirboy in the nearby Chapel of St. Mary's. He has happy memories of singing there on Christmas nights. His first stage performance was however in the Kincasslagh Hall at the tender age of seven. Where he sang, " Little Cabin on The Hill." |

Though his sister Margo was now a successful recording star, Daniel had no desire to follow in her footsteps. He first began training to be a teacher before changing to study commerce at Galway College. But then Margo asked him to join her band and he joined playing rythm guitar, even though he couldn't at that time play a note. But he soon established himself in the band. Eventually Daniel gained enough courage to front the band when Margo took a break. |
Daniel's confidence grew after two years on the live music circuit. Enough to make the brave decision to go solo. He still had a day job washing dishes at the Central Hotel in Dublin. He managed to save £600 which he used to finance the release of his debut single," My Donegal Shore " and " Stand Beside Me," A thousand copies were pressed and Daniel sold them at every opportunity, even to a busfull of pilgrims on the way to Knock Shrine. Daniel formed a couple of bands, first, Country Fever and then Grassroots which helped him grow as a performer. |
He got his big break after performing in front of 70,000 people at the London-Irish Festival. Mick Clerkin, Ritz Music Group Chairman, must have been impressed with Daniel, as he signed him up to his label. The debut album, "Two Sides To Daniel O'Donnell," received positive airplay both in Ireland and the UK. |
Through hectic tours of Ireland and the UK and numerous press and radio promotions. He was coming to the attention of many new fans. In 1987 Daniel scored his first no. 1 hit in the UK Country Chart. with his third album, " Don't Forget To Remember Me." It crashed straight into the top of the charts in the week of release. Only top American acts had managed such a feat untill then.He followed this with glowing performances in Peterborough and at the Wembley International Festival Of Country Music. Amazingly, Daniel was more popular in the UK than in his native Ireland. |
Daniel's 1988 album " From The Heart " not only topped the Country Charts but featured in the UK Pop charts. where it remained for twelve weeks. This was a great breakthrough success for him and to date has had numerous Top 20 album successes in the UK pop charts as well as one top 10 smash hit album, 1998's " Love Songs " which peaked at No.9. All his albums have either secured Gold, or Platinum status as well as top the UK Country charts |

Daniel had a hit with the single " Give A Little Love " taken from his " Love Songs " album. He reached No.7 giving him his first top ten hit in the UK pop charts. He has given us so much pleasure with his music and although he has great success, Daniel's feet have remained firmly on the ground. He is famous for staying behind after his shows to meet and greet his many fans. His Tea- Parties were once a yearly event, though now it is sadly a thing of the past. The Kincasslagh Festival is a yearly event in the Month of September. Which is held in The Dome behind what was once Daniel's Hotel, The Viking House. |

To date Daniel is now married to the lovely Majella. Much to the dismay of some of his fans, but once over the shock they have taken Majella to their hearts and will love her just as much. I just would like to add my sincere congratulations to them both, and wish them every success. |
