The Five Demands

The Blanket Protes, the Dirty and No-Wash
Protest continued since 1976 , but still the British government refused to give the hunger strikers special status.They tried to publicise the prisoners as common criminals , even though rampant oppression by the British has led to their imprisonment.So the prisoners turned to the last possible resource at a prisoners means, The Hunger Strike,

When the hunger strike started, Five demands were issued by the inmates.These demands, if not meet by the British government would mean certain death for the hunger strikers.

1.  The right to wear civilian clothes;
2.  The right to do no prison work;
3.  The right of free association with other prisoners;
4.  The right to organize their own educational and recreational facilities;
5.  The Right to one visit , one parcel and one visit per week.

When the British government refused to give these men these rights, these men chose death rather than be defined as criminals.
