Black and TanHis ancestry is based on the Black and Tan Terrier, and he is known in some countries as the Toy Manchester Terrier, but since 1960 this breed has been called the English-Toy-Terrier, but in North America it is still known as the Toy-Manchester terrier. The forbears of this small dog were the Black and Tan Terriers, famed for centuries as rat fighters in the North of England. In the nineteenth century the Black and Tan was adopted by Fashionable Society, but this popularity was almost the undoing of the breed, because public demand for tiny specimens produced stunted, sickly creatures, but since the 1950 breeders have improved its health and appearance.
A lively little dog, the English-Toy-Terrier is an ideal pet it should be balanced, cleanly built, and elegant, giving appearance of alertness and speed. Sleek and richly coloured, he has a prescribed coat pattern laid down in his standard. His candle-flame shaped ears are a feature of his head, and his small, dark, sparkling eyes add to his alert expression. He is not aggressive, his smooth glossy coat requires minimal care. Affectionate and friendly. He makes a charming, intelligent loving companion, he his a clean little dog whose short coat leaves little evidence of hairs about the place. It lacks neither courage nor intelligence, is loyal and it uses its piercing bark to sound an alarm, which makes him a first class house dog.
He will steal your heart away. |
