The Blue Anchor is a pub that brews for itself. It doesn't produce
a huge quantity of beer: barrels rarely leave the pub, and even more
rarely leave Cornwall. Once a barrel got as far east as the Village
in Salisbury, where I tried it.
All Blue Anchor beers are called 'something Spingo' or 'Spingo
something'. Now I really don't recall what kind of Spingo it was I drank.
But I do remember that it was superb. It was a really dark black beer,
absolutely packed with flavour. It stuck in my memory as once of the
best beers I had ever tasted - possibly the best of all time.
