MK 3
However, a
4 – door “Pillarless” saloon, (based on the 1984 Mitsubishi Galant) was
sold in the UK between 1987 & 1989, marketed as a sporty version of the
Galant. It was known as the “Mitsubishi Galant Sapporo 2.4”, and was front
wheel drive.
Although certain
“Sapporo” hallmarks remained, such as the “pillarless”
Windows
and Reversing lights separate to the rear light clusters, the 87-89 model was
not only placed in a different class, but was also markedly different in its
layout.
As well as
having 4 – doors, the Mk 3 also was front wheel drive and boasted some
Interesting developments such as “ECS – Electronically Controlled
Suspension” and “EPS – Electronic Power Steering”. General equipment
levels were much higher, as was general comfort levels.
The Introduction of the 1988 “All New” Mitsubishi Galant meant that the Galant Sapporo would no longer fit in within the Mitsubishi model range, hence this model only having a two year life span within the UK market.
