MY SAPPOROS 3
This 1985 Sapporo Turbo was bought to be used as a doner car for my '83 Sapporo GLS Auto which I converted to a 2000 Turbo.
Reason for this being that I tried to locate a Turbo with a good body in 2000, but was unable to find a good one. The restorer suggested using my '83 Sapporo, as the shell was in great condition. I had owned it since 1992 and greased all the panels back then. It had been previously garaged since new......................

These Pictures Taken July 2001 The restoration took from April 2000 to Sept 2000. The car suffered a front end fire (Pics to be put on at later date), so I had to rebuild it again meaning it didn't finally get on the road until Dec 2000. |
As you can see from the pics, exterior mods. included '80 to '84 Galant Front Spoiler, RGA boot lid spoiler and custom made side skirts. I also bought some "Team Dynamics Qualifier" Alloy wheels 15 x 7" Wheels. Colour Coded Bumpers & Mirrors. The Chrome Finisher Bar you see below Spoiler in above pic. was actually an old Towel Rail from Mums bathroom!! | ![]() |
Picture taken Jan 2004 Never happy, I decided to restore some Alley Cat Alloys off MK1 Sapporo, Feeling that the Qualifiers were somehow too modern. I also added a chrome finisher to the exhaust pipe. |

Interior wise, I've always found Jap. Cars to be very bland and black, so like to add a bit of colour! As you can see, painted bits inc clock surround, Air vents, console and door trim tops.
I also home made some white dials by tracing the UGLY original black / orange ones. They're dead cool and glow white at night, Including the heater controls. I've also fitted racing pedal covers and a Momo Millennium Steering wheel and painted auxiliary switches and buttons in silver or red.
My Car was featured in "Retro Modified Classics" in Feb 2004 (the pic was taken prior to accident in Jan 2004). Yippie!!!! I couldn't believe it. Other Mods since above had included painting mirrors silver, putting twin headlamps from Aussie "Scorpion" with all headlamps lighting on dipped beam. This gave the car real road presence at night.
On 3rd Jan. 2004, I hit the back of a Mits. Shogun. As you can see my car is quite wrecked. There was NO damage to the Shogun (Bloody Jeeps!!) Lucky for me, as my car went under the Shogun, there is no chassis damage.
I've ordered some twin headlights and grille from the USA, and luckily had spare bonnet, bumper, wing and trims etc.............. The garage will have to pull the inner panel out and decrease the crushed lights "Support". I hope to have the car back on the road by the end of May 2004. Watch this space for updated Pics.!!!
