For All Writers was created on March 10, 2000. It was created to be a place where writers of all kinds could meet and discuss what they love most--writing!
This list is for anyone who writes. Whether you write mysteries, romances, nonfiction, poetry or lyrics, this list is for you. This is a place where you can discuss techniques, get advice, talk about the best books you have read (technique or fiction), meet new writing friends and even get your work critiqued--if you wish. For All Writers is open to anyone who wishes to join.
Participation is not required but it is highly recommended to keep discussions going. This can be a high traffic list. Please bear that in mind when subscribing.
This list is about writing. Please try to keep the discussions on that topic. Always bear in mind that membership on this list is open to individuals of every age and persuasion. Please respect the opinions and feelings of fellow list members when posting.
Weekly Writing Exercises--
Currently there are three weekly writing exercises to hopefully spark an idea or two!
Wednesday: quotations.
Thursday: one historical word is posted with its date of origin, its etymology, what historical era it is chosen from, pronunciation and definition.
Friday: a list of ten unrelated words are posted.
Please bear in mind that all writing exercises are completely VOLUNTARY. In no way should you to feel as if you must do them or submit your work to the group. If you wish to work them offline, please do so. No one will be excluded from the list for not wishing to participate in the weekly writing exercises.
Any suggestions for new writing exercises are always welcome. List members may also sponsor their own exercises. Saturday through Monday is currently open and waiting to be taken.
Critiquing--
A note about writing submitted for critiquing: ALL work submitted to this list for the purpose of constructive criticism is the sole property of its AUTHOR. Any reproduction of their work without their written permission is strictly prohibited.
Critiquing work is also a VOLUNTARY activity. Do not feel that you must critique every submission to the group. I know this is impossible. If you wish to critique, choose and critique only the works you feel comfortable commenting on. No one will be excluded from the list for not wishing to participate in critiquing.
Subject Headers--
As of May 24, 2000, a set of eight subject headers have been instituted for the purpose of making it easier to organize and read list messages. They are:
For topics not related to the subject of writing:
NT: subject of email
For the submission of work including writing exercises:
SUB: worktitle, author
For critiques of a submitted work:
CRIT: worktitle
For comments on recent discussions:
COMMENT: subject
For questions, tips, and suggestions relating to the technical aspect of writing:
TECH: subject
For administrative notices (used by moderators only):
ADMIN: subject
For the announcement of writing successes, publications and awards:
DEC: subject
For compliments relating to special announcements:
BACKPAT: subject
No one will be reprimanded or removed from the list for not using subject headers; but, for the aforementioned reason it is requested they be attached to the subject line of all outgoing list messages.
Any suggestions for making ForAllWriters a better list are always welcome! With your suggestions and participation ForAllWriters will be a place to learn, share writing experiences and find support.
This list is not moderated in the sense that messages do not have to approved before becoming accessible to the entire list. However, I do read every message. I want this list to remain casual and comfortable. It should have the atmosphere of a gathering of friends discussing what they love best!
The list membership is restricted at the moment. This is due to the amount of spam that has been sent to the list in recent weeks. With the exception of individuals known to send spam to mailing lists and those known to join lists only to stir trouble all memberships are given top priority and approved ASAP.
Flame wars and personal attacks and criticisms will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Individuals who ignite or partake in flame wars and personal attacks will be immediately removed from the list.
When posting, please bear in mind that membership on this list is open to individuals of every age and persuasion. There are many young ladies and gentlemen on the list as well as parents whose children may have access to their computers and/or email. There are also many different opinions held by the members. Please refrain from using excessive profanity in your posts. Respect the opinions and feelings of fellow members when posting. How you wish to be treated is how you should treat others.
List managers will intervene in the event discussions become heated or get out of hand.
