Platies can be a great beginner fish because they are fairly easy to care for. Your only major concern should be keeping the water temperature fairly warm, as they are tropical fish. It is reccomended that you buy platies in pairs. If you buy a large amount they will eventually pair off. Platies like a large area to swim in, so don't over decorate your tank if you have alot of these fish. Platies are very easy to bred in community aquariums, as all you need is a male and a female! Platies are livebearers so their babies can swim immediately. Like most fish the parents may eat the fry and you should purchase a small nursery net for them to grow in. They are very peaceful fish and will get along with a number of other species. My Platies live with Mollies, a Betta, and an Chinese Algae eater. Platies come in a variety of colors, red, yellow, orange, and will really brighten up your tank. Temperature - Between 75-80 degrees F Feeding Recommendations - Tropical Flake Food, Freeze Dried Plankton (supplement), Freeze Dried Bloodworms (supplement) Breeding - Livebearers. Simple to breed in community aquarium. |
