& Cons of 'Sarah
& Marc In Love'

Introduction
During mid 2005 it was stated that a brand new
reality celebrity docu-soap TV show would premier
on German channels, and slated as one of the most
awaited shows of the year, it was "Sarah
& Marc In Love". Almost identical
to the US version of Nick Lachey and Jessica
Simpson's "Newlyweds", the
show's aim was to let both Sarah and Marc's fans
to know more about their private lives and what
they do as a couple. At the end of the show,
they'll show their "big" day,
nonetheless, a day every girl will wait for in
their lifetime.
Pros
The show started off by introducing each of
Sarah's family members and both of them movin'
into a new apartment. Then with all that usual
dramarama tactics that every reality TV would
use, the show is undoubtly predictable with
probably a few scenes that would crack the
audiences.
As the show
progresses, people in general (not only Sarah or
Marcs' fans) get to know the "Terenzi
family" more, other than the music they make
or just singing performances, TV appearances,
etc. Even those who isn't into their music (Sarah
generally), they have grown to like them as pop
personnels and see the humanity in Sarah and her
family.
What suprises
most about the show is that, fans tend to get
more critical than non-fans, because most fans
would kind of know what personality Sarah has and
gets all critical when the TV editing wasn't done
properly. Whereas, non-fans doesn't know much
about them, so especially those who used to
despise Sarah (whether its personally or
musically), they tend to like her more as a
person than as a popstar.
Cons
As much as everyone loves the show, the
credibilty of reality TV has already shone off
Sarah's image as an artist. Yes, we all know she
can sing, she writes her own songs and dances
very well, but didn't the imfamous Jessica
Simpson does all of that as well? Not that Sarah
would have made a fool out of herself on national
TV, but like what's been said about reality TV:
only 20% of what you've seen on the TV is real,
another part of the percentage credits to TV
editing.
Other than
hurting her image a bit, I think its a
disadvantage for Marc Terenzi to appear on the
show as well. Sarah is no doubt, a credible
singer, who sold millions of albums, etc - where
Terenzi is just one fifth of an ex-boyband which
wasn't THAT known in US, only finding a tad bit
of success in Germany now with all that media
stunts (including Sarah & Marc In Love).
The question is, what goes: The music, or the
people?
Aftermath
Sarah & Marc In Love definitely
brought entertainment on TV for the Germans in
2005, but is it all neccessary? By stopping the
release of singles just after two of them, the
show was obviously to boost Marc's rockstepping
"music" career and a tad bit of their
personal lives. After the Christmas special for
Sarah & Marc In Love (which again,
rip off from Newlyweds Xmas special), I certainly
do not wish to see another "docusoap"
with Sarah in it. But then again, who knows?
