Some Notes on Sarah's Competitive history

  • *
  • With her (impressive-IMO)7th place finish at the 99 Worlds Sarah Hughes, along with the US world medalist Michelle Kwan, assured the US ladies of having 3 spots, instead of only 2, at the next years Worlds. (2000)
  • Sarah became the second women ever to complete a triple loop-triple loop combonation in competition at the 99 US Nationals.
  • Sarah finished fourth overall and in the freeskate at the 99 US Nationals. Although she was second after the short program.
  • Although Sarah finished fourth at the 99 US Nationals, she was able to attend worlds that year in place of the age ineligable silver medalist Naomi Nari Nam.
  • Although technically last year(and currently- as of 00)Sarah is technically too young to compete in senior level competition. However the ISU rules state that an age ineligable skater may reverse that status, with a medal at the junior worlds. Sarah did just that; establishing herself with a silver medal at junior worlds shortly before the 99 US Nationals. Thus with that medal Sarah rendered herself eligible to travel to the senior world championships if she makes the team. The medal also qualifies Sarah for senior competition for the remainder of her skating career.
