The narcissist is an actor enacting a monodrama, yet forced to remain behind the scenes. The scenes take centre stage, instead.

The Narcissist does not cater at all to hir own needs. Contrary to hir reputation, the Narcissist does not "love" hirself in any true sense of this loaded word.

sHe feeds off other people who hurl back at hir an image that sHe projects to them. This is their sole function in his world : to reflect, to admire, to applaud, to detest - in a word, to assure hir that sHe exists. Otherwise, they have no right to tax hir time, energy, or emotions - so sHe feels.

The Narcissist's ego is weak and lacks clear borders. Many of the ego functions are projected. The Superego is sadistic and punishing. The Id is unrestrained.

They are said to be in love with themselves.

But this is a fallacy.

Narcissus is not in love with HIRSELF. sHe is in love with hir REFLECTION.

....................There is bound to be a major difference between "true" self and reflected-self.
