Well Well Well, LoL This Site Will Keep You Informed On All The New Versions Of AIM
AIM 5.5
Description: This is the most current popular version of AIM right now. Unless I'm behind on updates, this should be the featured AIM on http://www.aim.com at this very moment. It includes the most features to date. There is talk about there being more spyware in this version than any other version released, so use your own discretion when installing this one. I use this version myself and have had no problems. I also enjoy the multiplayer games. The only down side to the games are that they are only demo's and they try to get you to pay for them. The screen name linking feature is nice if you run out of room on your buddy list. You can link more screen names so they all sign on at the same time. You just select which list you want to view. If you don't want anyone to notice that the other screen names are on you can select an option to go invisible on those names. The best part is that you can still talk with them if you are invisible!

AIM 4.8.2790
Description: I would still use this version of AIM if it weren't for a few quirks that tick me off about it. AOL keeps this file available on their server because it is made for those who still run older operating systems such as Windows 98 that cannot handle the newer AIM (5.x and newer). This version isn't much different from the newest version of AIM. The reason I don't still use this version of AIM is that when you clear your away messages they don't erase from your away message dialogue until you actually come back from being away and then go away again. One very attractive quality (in my opinion) of this version is that it runs perfectly with MyIM. MyIM only works for AIM 4.8 and less. You can get it here.

AIM 4.7.2480
Description: I can't find any differences between this version of AIM and AIM 4.8.2790. I know there must be some somewhere. If you'd like to tell me what it is, please feel free to tell me on AIM. In the meantime I'll just post this file for a reference and you can come up with your own conclusion about what your feelings are on this version.

Description: The only difference really that I can find is that your preferences are in the old style. They are tabbed at the top instead of a list at the left. Other than that it feels and looks just like AIM 4.8 to me. Although, I do find the tabbed windows to be harder to go through than the list. So I'd recommend AIM 4.8 over this one, but that isn't a big deal at all really. Oh! I also couldn't find any Send Buddy List feature. I never use that anyways. But if you really really like to share your buddy list with your friends, you have to learn how to do it manually with this program. (I've always done it that way anyways.) Features:

AIM 4.2.2184
Description: Well, this one has less features yet. It seems as though this one doesn't have the Direct IM capabilities. You know, you'd never realize how much you rely on those until you've had them for a long time. If you don't need that feature though this makes just as good of an AIM client as any of the rest. Another down side to this version is that it doesn't seem to have fetched my buddy list. That means I have to locally supply it with my list. That's another feature that you take for granted now. It also doesn't check your mail.

AIM 3.0.1464
Description: This version only drops down one feature that I could find. There's no talk feature. This version of AIM doesn't have many ways to connect TCP/IP at all to the other user. The only TCP/IP you get out of this is through file transfers. This version is definitely a very antiquated version of AIM in comparison to the newer ones. Features:

AIM 2.1.1187
Description: Well, here it is! AIM stripped down to chat only. It looks pretty close to the same AIM featured as the newest client, it just has none of the features. The coolest feature on this version is that you can change your font and stuff. But, you can do that on almost any version.

AIM 1.1.19
Description: Here's another really old AIM client with only the ability to chat to your buddy's. It's not as good as version 2.1.1187 though. You will have to manually supply your buddy list in order to find and chat to your buddy's. Being so old, some of the features don't work as well as they did when they were new. The coolest part about this client is that it runs from Java!

AIM 1.0.414
Description: Here's yet another simple version of AIM with only the chat feature. There are actually a few neat features to note. Not expressed features, just things I've noticed on my own. This version is small enough to fit on a floppy. You can have travel AIM with a floppy! Okay, well I suppose that isn't a very useful feature. I was stretching for something good to say about this out-dated version of AIM.
