Sathe Nyas Address

This temple of Jogeshwari and Kalbhairav is probably at least 4 centuries old. It is difficult to say exactly when it was constructed. It is a beautiful temple built in "HEMADPANTI" style. Probably the only one of this type in Konkan area. It shares the same campus as the other temple of Shiva which is just by its side. The Jogeshwari temple however is managed privately by Sathe family (the only family that has remained at the place of origin of our KUL).

The Mandap is built by huge blocks of laterite stone. Each stone might need 10 men to lift it ! At the entrance of the GARBH-GRIHA, on side panels, there are idols of Lord Vishnu-Laxmi and Lord Kalbhairav (riding a horse). This kind of "Ashwaaroodh" Kalbhairav is not seen anywhere else. It was shown by the Gurav to me. Vishnu idol is a white marble one and Kalbhairav is black stone.

In the GAABHAARA, Jogeshwari idol is found. It is sculpted in a fine manner.

This temple was waterproof to local rainfall of ~ 200 inches. Recently, in the past 10-15 years some Banyan trees and Pimpal trees and plenty of grass has found foothold on the temple and leakages have stated appearing. There is absence if any electrical supply, decent flooring and plaster on the walls.

One feels very sorry to see the current situation of the temple. This feeling gets magnified when one realizes how successful the descendants of the Sathe family have been. It would be a great step to renovate the temple of our own Kuldevi. I have witnessed many other Kuldevata temples being well preserved by the descendants of the respective Kuls such as Deodhars, Hardikars, Chitales, etc. This comparison makes us feel the pain all the more.
