2002 Roster/Lineup Rules

Roster Rules

During the season, a team may have a maximum of 20 players on its roster.  A team is not required to have a roster which contains a valid lineup (i.e. if a team wishes to cut its only kicker, it may do so).

Lineup Rules

A team’s starting lineup may consist of a maximum of 11 players:

1 QB

1 RB

1 WR

1 TE

3 FLEX (these may be RB or WR)

1 K

3 D

There is no penalty for a team including fewer than the maximum number of players in its starting lineup (other than the obvious).

Lineup Deadlines

Players added to a team’s roster after the end of the day (11:59 p.m. EST) before the first NFL game of the week are ineligible to be started.  This applies to players added either as free agents or through at trade.  It also means that a team may start a player that they traded or cut so long as they were on the roster at the end of the day (11:59 p.m. EST) before the first NFL game of the week.

Once an NFL game starts, any player playing in that game who is in a starting lineup will remain in that starting lineup.  Any player whose NFL game has not started yet may be removed or added to the starting lineup.
