PMT SAR Models

This page is a overflow from the PMT SAR parade.  As I mentioned, there are many more models of our local prototype at the club, not everybody was at the train parade.  At the parade, a lot of focus was put on the locos.  Here I will post pictures of some of the other models our club members has built.

Description
Albert van Deventer

These are 2 photos of Albert's latest project, the SAR class 9E locomotives used on the OREX line.  As usual, Albert builds from scratch, and uses Athearn chassis for his models.  Albert builds models to order, and his details can be found here. He also builds models of other common South African electrics.  The real locos runs off 590kV AC, with 6 motors producing 4140kW of power (3840kW continuous).  These massive locos weigh in at 166300kg, and span 21.132m over the couplers!
Francois Kritzinger The Vapour-Clarkson steam heater is used on diesel and electric hauled passenger trains in the colder months.  The only non-steam loco to be equipped with onboard heating equipment, was the class 3Es.  The model was build from scratch out of brass sheet and shapes.  The two end tanks are pieces of electrical conduit.  Couplers are Lima, and wheels are by CMD models.
Francois Kritzinger This is a model of a XB-10 cement tanker.  The model is built from a plastic fax roll tube, and styrene parts.  Pipes are for teh most brass wire.  Wheels and the yellow circle decals are by CMD Models. The weight and number decals are modified (read cut and paste) from SMLJ decals, also by CMD models.  Couplers are normal Lima type.
Bertus Olivier LA-1 steel refrigerator car.  The model is scratch built by Bertus.
Charles van Rooyen SMLJ-11 flat container car.  Built by Charles van Rooyen.

The new FZL grain hopper made by CMD models, is available in a Ready-to-Roll and kit form.  Leon got one of the first kits that he built, painted and weathered.  Also note the work done on the standard Lima goods wagons on both ends.

Charles has painted some of his Lima SAR stock to represent the old MLPS scheme and the newer Shosholoza Meyl service.
