The Institute for UFO Research (IUR) was established in 1996 for the purpose of promoting research in the area of UFO phenomena and educating society to its importance. The Institute also provides support to those who have had contact with extraterrestrial life.

One important reason for our existence is to sponsor the Rocky Mountain UFO Conference, held annually for the past 20 years at the University of Wyoming at Laramie. The Rocky Mountain UFO Conference was sponsored for many years by Drs. Leo Sprinkle and June Parnell, whose leadership we gratefully acknowledge. The IUR is honored to have the privilege of continuing this work in the tradition which they established.

The Institute for UFO Research (abbreviated IUR) is not connected with International University Resources (a campus religious organization) nor with the International UFO Reporter (a publication of the Center for UFO Studies -- CUFOS), both of which are also abbreviated IUR. Not meaning to step on anyone's toes, but it seems that everything tends to get reduced to an acronym these days, and that's just how the letters happened to fall.
