Well, I'm 5'11", I'm not into games, I like horseback riding, skiing, and men who aren't afraid to cry.

What could have made Will Truman the acerbic, witty, slightly chunky urban sophisticate that he turned out to be? Take a look at what makes him tick!

Family

From all accounts, it seems as if Will Truman had an almost idyllic childhood - with no Freudian nightmares or insecurities to hobble him. Apart from minor squabbles with his brother Sam over bikes, toys, girls, the lil gay boy seemed to have had it all.

With a father who is not only about the best dad that anyone could ever have but also a man who's terribly proud of his out-and-proud son. George Truman is truly a find and there is no one who loves him more than his own son - and his gang.

GEORGE: ...Then he comes in the living room, and he looks us both right in the eye, and he says, "Mom, dad, I'm gay, and...and I wanna bring my boyfriend home for Christmas." And I said, "You couldn't give me just a regular necktie like any other father?"

Not much of mention about his mother though Grace has said that he - the lucky sod- also has an exemplary mother, well a normal repressed passive-aggressive, panty-wearing mother. He even picks out brassieres for his mother!

His relationship with his elder brother, Sam, could only be as a little more problematic. As mentioned above although they had their little squabbles - fighting even over girls - hey, Will wasn't always gay! - the two brothers were close. That is until about five years ago when Sam asked Will what he thought about his fiancee, Ginny. Utterly unable to hide the truth, Will blurts out that the lady in question was a coldhearted bitch. Obviously the brothers stopped speaking after that incident.

Will turns out to be correct in his assessment of bad girl Ginny as the couple soon divorces. However the brothers don't mend their fences for some time as they each thought that the other hated their guts. Until of course Grace decides to take things into her lil hands!

School

Back in school, his best friend was Claire, his wonderful fag hag before Grace arrived. But of course this was in his pre-gay days. They even went out together for senior prom which was the rist time Claire finally thought that 'hmm.. this man could be gay!'.

CLAIRE: It was after senior prom. We're driving to the beach-- top down, warm night, his feathered hair motionless in the wind. And I make my move. I lean in real close and start kissing him.
WILL: Yeah. And I panic. I figure I gotta do something to distract her, so I did the only logical thing. I crashed into a Dodge Dart.

So Claire was his best pal and they did everything together until the lady decided to move to France to work as a designer. Of course, Will would never have guessed that his ex-best pal would return fifteen years later to demand some of his bodily fluids to concoct a baby.

He later meets the irreplaceable Grace Adler in college and they became fast friends after bonding over a book. They knew each other while Will was still on the cusp of becoming gay - and occasionally dragged her to Chippendales every Saturday nightwith the excuse that they made great mai-tais. Sensing somethign was different about this man, Grace finally confirmed her suspicion when Will touched her boob and was far mroe interested in her cashmere sweater than what was underneath.

Where else would a successful gay lawyer live but in New York City - Upper West Side Manhattan. Will's apartment building is located at 155 Riverside Drive, Apt. 9C while his best friend, Grace's office is located in the Puck Building at 295 Lafayette St., south of Houston St.

Being gay

Of course, Will didn't have a single inkling that he was gay till he was in his sophomore year. Apparently while playing basketball, Jay Barr and Will went up for a rebound. Their stomachs touched and the minute Will landed, he was gay!

Of course it took a while for Will to accept his gayness. For a while there, he continued to hide in the closet as he tried to reaffirm his vanilla heterosexuality by readign Playboy - for its articles and hiding his beloved Bette Midler albums under Led Zeppelin covers! And he put on weight!

But all this stopped when he finally met the incomparable Jack McFarland at a party. The man came up to him and literally brought Will out of the closet. Not only did Jack introduce himt o the gay world, he even forced Will to out himself to his parents by teasing him, pressuring him and finally by leaving The Sensuous Gay Man on Will's mom's washing machine. Which really left no doubt of Will's sexuality.
