It was the irrepressible Jack that brought the staid, serious Will Truman kicking and screaming - well, not exactly that since Will woudn't dare be that loud - into the gay and proud world. Jack first comes into Will's life at a time when Will was still in severe denial about being gay - and at least 20 over pounds overweight. *GASP* OR was it 30? 25? Anyway during the party, although they didn't know each other that well, Jack suddenly pulls Will aside and says, "Aren't you tired yet?" And this is what Will had to say... So Jack took a look at the poor straight-acting bloke, got a signal on his gaydar and started introducing Will to the homoworld - and also taught him how to dance without pointing all the time. The man literally flits from job to job - and lives off Will's refrigerator in the meantime. This doesn't cause much of a problem for Will as he has somehow found a way to deduct Jack McFarland as an entertainment expense. But don't let it be said that Jack is unemployed. Whilst scrounging off Will's generosity - and his credit card, Jack reluctantly joins the employment circle with several varied jobs from being a waiter to a Banana Republic salesman. While bumming around in Will's apartment, he also picks up more than the occasional pizza, he also picks up the delivery boy, the electrician and also the taxi driver to boot. You gotta love him - the man is an utter tramp and damned proud of it.
But while he looks for jobs in all the wrong places, he also has a website called Just Jack and a stand-up comedy act - which actually pokes digs at his best friend Will's failed relationships much to Will's dismay. He also has a pet parrot named Guapo and a dog name Klaus Von Puppy - whom he actually inherited from Will who realized that he couldn't possibly take care of that many things. Since he does have a penchant of collecting small things, Jack has lately been saddled with a child of his own. The product of Jack's donation 13 years ago to the New York Family Clinic and a baby-mad nurse, Elliot is a calm, self-possessed young man who single-handedly turns Jack into a real father. A massive fan of Cher, he knows all her songs by heart. He keeps on falling for the 'Cher' card which is a way of Will tricking Jack into going someplace where he doesn't want to be. Jack even owns a Cher doll which he originally intended for Will's birthday - but obviously knew that Will wouldn't want it. Amazingly though in all this time, his parents have not guessed that Jack's gay! Catching him in bed with another man, his mother believed Jack's story that he's looking for lice. And when caught wearing his mom's heels, they believed his excuse that it helped solve his inner ear problem. However, Jack hid this teeny fact from Will and managed to browbeat Will into outing himself first.
The duo have also shared a publicly aired onscreen kiss! After a soap opera failed to show an onscreen kiss between two gay men, Jack gets on his high horse and stages a demonstration against NBC. This culminates with an spontaneous, unplanned kiss when Will decides to initiate on the Today Show. Another interesting fact is a reputable psychic named Psychic Sue somehow looks into Will's future and it turns out that a dark, handsome man awaits him. Dark, gorgeous and with a name that starts with J!
