Dear Editor:
I must object to an article in the Committee for Green Foothills fall newsletter titled: Coastal Open Space one Step at a Time" where it states that Pescadero seems to be saying in their opposition to the proposed Midpeninsula Open Space District annexation of the San Mateo County coastside, "We already have enough open space, we would rather have more development thank you."
Quite the contrary
My understanding is that Pescadero is very much opposed to development, particularly that of the parking lot, staging area and protapot variety that MROSD proposes throughout their community. Additionally, increased traffic would create undue pressure on Pescadero roads and water supply. Most critical are the easements MROSD plan to put along and through agricultural lands and private property. As these tended, tilled and taxpaying lands are gradually eliminated by MROSD "acquisition" fire danger will rise and local revenue will dry up. This will doom the schools, businesses and community of Pescadero.
This courageous little coastal town has made a choice to survive by opposing the proposed annexation of the coastside.
It appears MROSD is just another government agency trying to finagle control of the coastside from the people who live here. Pescadero residents feel quite capable of managing and protecting their own lands thank you. They have been doing so successfully for generations.
Sincerely
Deborah Ettinger
