This was an english assignment in ninth grade to re-write a scene from Romeo and Juliet and this is what my group did...

__Romeo and Juliet: Act 3, Scene 1

Benvolio - Come on Mercutio. Let’s go. It’s hot and if the Capulets come we will fight because it’s hot and they are pissed.

Mercutio - You are like a duck. One minute you are nice and the next you attack for no reason.

Benvolio - Am I really?

Mercutio - I we give you a reason to be pissed then you will immediately draw.

Benvolio - What am I angry at?

Mercutio - You would fight with anyone. You would fight someone just because he had more or less hair on his beard. You would fight with someone for cracking nuts for no other reason than he has hazel eyes. You just love a good fight.

Benvolio - Oh, but I am not as bad as you. If I was, a man could buy my life in less than an hour and a half.

Mercutio - How simple.

[Enter Tybalt]

Benvolio - Look a Capulet.

Mercutio - Like I care.

Tybalt – I will speak to them. – Hello- a word with one of you.

Mercutio - Just a word? Why not a word and a fight?

Tybalt - I’m up to it and I know you will give me the occasion.

Mercutio - But you can’t take without giving.

Tybalt - Mercutio, aren’t you friendly with Romeo?

Mercutio - Do you make fun of me? Draw and I will make you a friend of God!

Benvolio - Please, at least go somewhere else and fight or stop this now. Everyone is looking.

Mercutio - Let them look. I’m not leaving.

[Enter Romeo, now kinsman of the Capulets]

Tybalt - Shut up. He’s my man.

Mercutio - Oh so now he’s your servant?

Tybalt - Romeo, I hate you. You are a villain.

Romeo - Oh, but I love you for a reason you don’t know or else I would kick your butt. I’m not a villain so see you later.

Tybalt - Shut up man. You aren’t forgiven for the injuries you caused. DRAW!

Romeo - I’d never hurt you. I love you more than you can imagine so until I can tell you why be happy with it.

Mercutio - You idiot. You’re letting him get away? [Draws sword] Tybalt, will you fight?

Tybalt - What do you want with me?

Mercutio - A fight to the death.

Tybalt - Let’s do it. [Draws sword]

Romeo - Don’t do this Mercutio.

Mercutio - Let’s go.

Romeo - Benvolio, stop this. Guys, the Prince outlawed this.

[Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm. Exit Tybalt.]

Mercutio - He stabbed me. A plague on both your houses! I’m done for.

Romeo - Are you hurt?

Mercutio - A scratch – but it’s enough. Go get a doctor.

Romeo - It can’t be that bad.

Mercutio - Yes, it is. I’ll be dead by tomorrow. Why did you get between us you idiot? I was hurt under your arm.

Romeo - I was trying to stop it.

Mercutio - Benvolio get me out of here or I’ll faint.

[Exit Mercutio and Benvolio]

Romeo - Because of my only love’s cousin my best friend is dying. I have to have my vengeance.

[Reenter Benvolio]

Benvolio - He’s dead.

Romeo - This is not the last death.

[Reenter Tybalt]

Benvolio - Great. He’s back.

Romeo - Mercutio is dead and before his soul is to heaven either you or me or both of us must join him.

Tybalt - It’s going to be you.

Romeo - We’ll just see about that.

[They fight. Tybalt dies.]

Benvolio - Get out of here!

Romeo - Oh I am screwed.

Benvolio - HELLO! Get out of here!

[Exit Romeo. Enter 1st Citizen]

1st Citizen - Where did the guy who killed Mercutio go?

Benvolio - Right there. [points at Tybalt]

1st Citizen - We gotta tell the prince.

[Exit 1st Citizen. Enter Prince, Montague, and Lady Capulet.]

Prince - Where are the persons responsible for this?

Benvolio - I know what happened. Romeo killed Tybalt because Tybalt killed Mercutio.

Lady Capulet - [hysterical] Oh my gosh! How is it that my brother’s child is dead? Oh Tybalt!

Prince - Who started this? The person responsible will pay with his life.

Benvolio - Tybalt, who Romeo killed. Romeo was trying to stop it and couldn’t, so Mercutio and Tybalt fought. And while Romeo was trying to stop it, Mercutio was stabbed right under Romeo’s arm. Tybalt fled, but Romeo went after him and killed him for vengeance, your Highness.

Lady Capulet - He’s lying! He’s a friend of Montague and would try to lay blame on poor Tybalt. Oh Tybalt!

Prince - Romeo killed him, he killed Mercutio. What price does his blood owe?

Montague - Not Romeo. He was Mercutio’s friend. He only did what the law would have.

Prince - [angry] And for that he is banished form Verona and nothing will get him back in.

[Exit all.]
