This is NOT an advertisement for the Ronald McDonald House or any of its affiliates. Simply, the staff and volunteers at the house deserve the biggest pat on the back that anyone could offer. This organization, though hardly recognized in the community, is one of THE most important sources of support for many families in need today. It doesn't matter how much money you have, or your status in the community. Everything was givenn out of love and concern for the struggling family member.
We stayed there for almost 2 months, and they asked for NOTHING in return. They made sure that we had everything we needed. (Even a ride to MCV) This house is in the middle of Richmond, Virginia, and it is absolutely gorgeous! When we would come home from visiting our son, they would be there to greet us with a smile. Whenever we needed to talk to someone, they would stay and listen as long as we needed.
The families there are all going through very difficult times. It meant more to us than anyone could ever know to have them there with us. Many nights were spent in the television room playing the guitar, watching movies and talking about EVERYTHING. The bonds that were created there are amazing.
This organization receives donations for food, toiletries and many other types of items from local residents, churches and any comany who wishes to donate. There is NO profit involved in running this place. A couple times a week, the local churches would get together and make these TREMENDOUS dinners for the families. If we didn't have money to eat, the house would have a stocked kitchen.
The best part was the choices we had. If we wanted to spend time with the families, we had that choice. If we did not want to, we had that choice. Although there was always a genuine concern for everyone, noone was pushed or even encouraged to be a part of the group. Everyone has their own way of dealing with tragedy, and it was up to the individual as to how they wish to partake.
We will never forget our time at the Ronald McDonald House in Richmond. The warmth and love that surrounds that organization is incredible, and I personally encourage everyone to donate ANYTHING they can to its cause. We will definitely.
To all who were are a part of our lives during our time of need, we SINCERELY THANK YOU for offering us your love and a special place to rest. We hope that God blesses each of you.
