I didn't know that loving you could be this good
Awakened by the essence of your voice
Whispering softly in my ear
I show a half smile, wipe my eyes for a better view of you
And say Good Morning to you as well---
George Michael chants phrases
From "A Moment With You" in my head
While Jill flows ever so smoothly
With "He Loves Me"
And I close my eyes to envision US
In the Future Tense
So wrapped up in the thought of you
Being here with me
I blink to remind myself that you
Can only exist in my dreams
21 brought feelings I've never experienced
She caught me off guard and swept me off of my feet
And into your arms
But 21 got me hanging on to 20 still.....
Wanting to be held
Needing to be loved
Feeling attached and disconnected at the same time---
I hear you telling me to trust you
But I've never been able to do that on my own
As I watch you slip on your navy blue shirt that I purchased
And khaki Dockers, along with your brown Eastlands
I know another day would be spent
Without your body next to mine
And Erykah Badu chimes in with her version
Of Chaka Khan's "Stay"
While I nod my head from side to side
Following the melody as it's being played inside of me
21 smiles cuz She's here and you're leaving
And all I can do is tug on to the sheets
We picked out together from Ethan Allen
Sniffing the cologne you splash on your neck
And behind your ears every morning---
You reassure me that when I closed my eyes tonight
You'd be there
And 21 got me wanting to meet 22
Maybe she'll be easier on me
Maybe she'll teach me more
Maybe, just maybe 21 will let me
Let go of 20....
And if He were to knock on the door
While the two of US were swimming in Oceans unknown
I wouldn't have answered it.
