Larry Ghiorsi

Larry has been crazy enough to play bass with me for the last 20 years, and he took most of the pictures on this site. Go to the Lorraine Larocca page to find out how he got started.

Larry took many of these pictures, like the photos of Lenny, and Nat, and the one of me and Adam at the famous, and now defunct, blues bar "Dan lynch." Lynch's was on the west side of 2nd ave. between 13th and 14th streets. I remember the first time I went there. It was 1979 and Bill Dicey was running the Sunday jam, which, as far as I know, he had started the year before. I played some savage Clapton riffs on somebody's 335 and Bill told me to relax. When I moved back to Manhattan a year or two later, Lynch's became my hangout. In those days it was a festival of harp players. Guys like Danny Russo, Marty Fink, Bob Shatkin, and Nat would come down and play at the jam, and Bill Dicey, who, if not the best, was at least primus inter pares, ran the show and booked the club. When I first jammed with Bill, his guitarist was Wendell Holmes, and Sherman Holmes played bass. His drummer was the famous Charles Otis. Drummers would come to Lynch's on Sunday to study his style. He always wore a three-piece suit and chewed on a toothpick. Go to Larry's Pictures to see Charles and more.
