OFFENSIVE WEAPONRY
Phaser Banks / Arrays
Phaser Emitter
Type XII with overlapping targeting areas.
Effective Range: 300,000 KM
The largest phaser emitters available, and powered each with their own Fusion reactors.  All phaser banks on the Starbase are grouped in rings, each with a 180 degree firing arc to provide optimal firing control.  There are multiple banks on the Starbase to provide copmlete coverage.  Controls can be operated from Main Ops, or any of the battle centers.  Each emitter is capable of discharging up 5.1 MW of power at it's target.  The graphic on the right shows a typical individual phaser bank element.
Photon Torpedoes
Photon Torpedo
Dimensions: 2.1 x 0.76 x 0.45 metres
Mass: 247.5 KG
Effective Range: 3.5 Million KM
A very powerful explosive weapon which works by combining small amounts of matter and antimatter in an uncontrolled mixture.  It's greatest advantage is that it is one of the few weapons that can be used efffectively while at Warp Speed.  It does not have a warp drive engine, but is able to sustain it's warp speed by "coasting" within it's own warp field while at FTL speeds.  If launched at a speed less than c it will continue to coast at a speed equal to that at which it was launched.  The maximum explosive yield of a Photon Torpedo was found, by Federation scientists, to be 25 isotons, hence the need for a more powerful explosive device.
Quantum Torpedoes
Quantam Torpedo
Dimensions: 1.38 x 0.76 x 0.45 Metres
Mass: Unknown
Effective Range: 3.5 million KM
When it was realised the Borg would be heading for the Alpha Quadrant, Starfleet realised it would need to upgrade it's current weapons systems in order to effectively counter the Borg.  The Quantum Torpedo was the first of the next generation of weapons.  Using a space time membrane as it's source, when the mebrane is suitably twisted, it creates a new particle, while at the same time releasing massive amounts of energy.  The process is similiar to that thought to have caused the "Big-Bang".  On this scale, the energy output has a thoretical output of 52 isotons - twice that of a Photon Torpedo.  In the recent attempted Borg incursion, the torpedo excelled by helping to destroy the Borg cube and followed up by destroying the Borg escape sphere.  The Quantum Torpedos are rapidly being deployed on virtually all starfleet vessels and are playing a prominant role in helping to defeat the Dominion.
Micro-Quantum Torpedoes
Micro Torpedo
Dimensions: 13.3 x 3.2 x 3.1 Centimetres
Mass: Unknown
Effective Range: 1.2 million KM
The Micro Quantum Torpedo was introduced to help arm the relatively small and undefended Starfleet Runabouts.  Although Runabouts were equipped with Phaser arrays, a more powerful weapon was required to help defend the Runabouts against larger, more powerful oponents such as the Dominion fighters they were frequently encountering.  Measuring just 13 cm in length, the Micro Quantum Torpedo is the most powerful weapon of it's size.  When fired from a Runabout, the torpedo incorporates a mini guidance system which will home in on the nearest enemy target, but this guidance system does not kick in unitil 3.7 seconds after it is launched in order to let it clear the vicinity of the Runabout.  As with all torpedoes, the Micro Quantum Torpedo can be fired while the ship is at Warp.
Mines
Mine
Dimensions: 1.76 x 1.85 Metres
Mass:Unknown
Effective Range: 500 Metres
The mine warhead itself is developed from a modified Photon Torpedo warhead that is set to detonate the moment any moving object reaches within 500 metres of the mine, producing an explosive yield equal to that of a Photon Torpedo.  Ingenious engineers on Starbase DS9 fitted mines with replicators to create a minefield that would re-generate as needed to defend against the Dominion during the war.
Defensive Systems
Multi-phasic Shields 86,000,000,000 TW with overlapping coverage.  As with most shield systems, it creates a localized spatial distortion field around the station.  Within this is a region of energized graviton particles, which drastically reduce impacts, material or energetic.  The energy fields generated by the deflctor grids are highly resistive to any impact.  When an object or energy discharge comes into contact with the outer or inner shield perimeter, graviton particles contained within the forcefield are focussed at the point of impact, focussing the distortion field and repelling the object, be it an incoming ship, beam weapon or other object.  When the buildup of gravitons in this area is finally released, a brief burst of Cerenkov radiation is usually discharged, giving the deflector shield system its name, and its characteristic Federation-blue hue.
Ship defensive line To act as a first line of defense, the Starbase can deploy it's two utility vessels - the USS Yeager, Reuben James, and the USS Faulkner.  These will be assisted by the Danube Class runabouts, and other small craft outfitted as needed.  Workbees would be detailed as minelayers to establish a defensive perimiter.
