General introduction :

Malice Mizer is the most visual major group I have met so far. For most bands, after they've gone major, they gradually ease off their visual kei origin and adopt the 'normal' look. But Malice carries it on with such vigor that seems almost like a total rejection of reality... Their songs suits their style: both with a touch of classical element as always, but with cool technological addition so it doesn't seem old-fashioned.

Engage & En-cage :

It's a pity that I only came to like them after Kami, their drummer died...

I knew of such a group's presence though (how can one skip these 'monsterous' looking ppl from magazines ^^), & thought: WHAT THE HECK? *sorry* & had a good laugh. They have tons of make-up on their faces and strange long fingernails to go with it. A bit abnormal and out of place 'cos it was a Jpop magazine where I saw them in.

Then, one day, I heard a beautiful song on the radio. It totally captured me ~I was supposed to be doing my work at that time~I listened carefully for the song name and band name -- au revoir of Malice Mizer. Hence, I'm totally hooked up on their music.Their stage setting & costume... so beautiful and unique, almost like a medieval play. Their songs are very story-telling, a bit melodramatic at times but still, enchanting. Besides, it is a really revolutionary gesture to use classical influence in band-sound. Their image is so picturesque. The photos are more like oil paintings then real photography. Mana and Kozi are just like a pair of porcelain dolls, one blue, one red, coming to life. Gackt adopted either the prince look or the lone falcon look. Kami always the purple or pink butterfly and Yuki~ the vampire duke or the lone unloved monster.

Now Gackt has left, Kami died & Khala joined the band as the new vocal. The group has gone even more 'classical'. I don't know what the future of the band will be, but I seriously think that unless some changes are done to their new style, fans will get bored of the insistant classical element in the songs soon.
