General introduction :

Shena Ringo is THE eccentric girl, who seems to love her traditional Japanese culture as much as the western 'modern' ones. She often combines traditiion Japanese elements into sometimes the sound, sometimes the gesture, sometimes the aesthetics (PV & dress code) of her productions. Her lyrics are experimental, fragmented and sometimes not even coherent. Yet it provokes such an impact on the listeners. Sometimes sadistic sometimes masochistic always obsesive and pocessive, she portrays the child-like basic instinct desires surpressed or unsurpressed in people's mind. It's almost like a modern blues, about urban cities love, hate and bordom, always telling a story. Her melodies are equally well.

Engage & En-cage :

The first song I got to hear from Shena is Kabuki Cho no Jou (Queen of Kabuki Town). Although I was only hearing bits and pieces of it at a time, I immediately falled in love with her expressive voice. & coming to know that the song is about a daughter of a prostitute who tells the tale of her mother's life as well as her own future becomings, I am immediately captivated. It's almost like watching a film only by listening to the story-telling like lyrics of hers. Then I went out to buy her first album. Her shrill voice needs a little time of adjusting to at first. Although her voice might not be a very thick and deep one, being so shrill and sharp and expressive at the same time, it amazingly pocess a violin-like quality.
