Gianna was baptized into the Vaticine Church with the name Caligara. At eighty-three years old, she is the first of Vincenzo Caligari's legitimate children, born while his father was still in charge of the family and before his unfortunate duel with Giovanni Villanova's grandfather. She is a Senzavista. Giordana is her younger sister, a mere eighty years old - but Giordana has startled more than one Montaigne emigre who's mistaken her for her late half-sister, Morella. Giordana isn't a very good strega, but she's had excellent luck with the Skulls spread. In 1605, tribal violence in the Cresent Empire was damaging Bernoulli shipping. Internal divisions were threatening the old prince, and he needed to marry his son off, and quickly. Caligari fortunes were rising at the time, and for that and other political reasons, Bernoulli turned to them for a match. Giordana, a stunning beauty, dazzled the prince's son. Gianna came along as her sister's vedova. Life in Bernoulli lands suited Giordana just fine. Born with a jolly temperament that ill-suited a stern Fate Witch, she adored the closed-off, Cresent-inspired women's quarters. With the generous allowance she got from her besotted husband, she could redecorate, throw parties, eat, drink, and be merry, all out of sight of the menfolk. Her mother-in-law did not approve, and things were very ugly for a while when the woman used tapestry magic to forcefully alter Giordana's Hedonistic Arcana. But eventually, the old prince and his wife died and Giordana's husband took the throne. He was fifty, and ruled only ten years before also passing away. His son, Gespucci, took the throne and rules Bernoulli lands to this day. Giordana is an Atropos, but lacks the strong mind to be an effective strega. Naturally frivolous, even in her old age, she takes little seriously. Pietro's Swords strand to Gespucci is "only what you'd expect from a jealous subordinate, nothing out of the ordinary;" on the subject of her grandsons, she shrugs and says, "Boys will be boys!" Unfortunately, Gespucci honors his mama as all good Vodacce boys should, and takes her bad advice more seriously than he ought to. She has grown away from Gianna as the other has wrinkled and withered and Giordana has not; her bones do not ache, she still has all her teeth, and she intends to continue dancing, singing, and taking lovers until the day, someday soon, when she will die and go to the Abyss. Gianna is old and sad. She is proud of little Gespucci, who has done so well for the family name. He keeps his honor and his faith, gives charitably to the poor, and has always been kind to her. Her sister, too busy celebrating to properly mother him, left the task of raising the little princeling to her vedova. Gespucci Bernoulli still calls her "Nana," as do many of the inhabitants of Palazzo Bernoulli. But she is old now, and even her little boy is old, and those sons of his... ay. She would have taken a stick to their little bottoms, but no one ever asked her. No one ever asks a Senzavista anything. She is making her peace with Theus, sure that she will be called home soon.
