A man so young,
just 53,
dead, killed by pirates
... the reason?
Money ... valuables,
where's the justice I ask in that?
So much misery in the world of late,
when will the sun shine once more in my life,
I long for happiness, to smile and laugh,
seems like such an eternity ago,
I want to be able to see other's do the same.
He was a man of many things,
firstly, and most importantly of all,
he was a wonderful father to James and Sarah-Jane,
so to a fantastic husband to his great wife,
A loving friend, brother, sister, uncle, aunty, cousin ... you name it :).
But most of us didn't know him that well,
to most of us it was his yachting achievements,
that stole our hearts of our little nation, New Zealand.
A national icon,
oh so grand,
he gave his all ... his heart,
and came up with many, many wins,
achieved many unthinkable things for a nation so small,
got that America's Cup off the American's,
of a total of twice ... in a row :),
he let us all feel apart of it,
by creating the Lucky Red socks.
Had a huge love for the environment,
to teach all how to save it, perserve it,
for further generations to enjoy.
Yet in a way, at least he was lucky.
He died doing what he loved to do,
in a boat on the water,
trying to help save the planet for a bit longer.
I'm sure with thoughts of home,
for the people he loved,
as the bullets hit.
Sir Peter,
oh yes he did,
died a hero,
trying to save the live's of all his crew,
that he did do, they were lucky,
able to now live to tell the tale.
He will always be a hero,
in my eyes, everyone's eyes.
Sadly he mustn't have been wearing
the Lucky Red Socks,
when the pirates came aboard,
and the bullets flew his way :(.

The following poem right here is dedicated to one of New Zealand's greatest sporting icons. For those who don't know who Sir Peter Blake was, he was a yachting legend here in New Zealand and achieved many yachting things including both of our America's Cup wins in both 1995 and so to 2000. He was tragically murdered in Brazil this week by a group of armed pirates that boarded his boat, the Seamaster to rob him and his crew.
