DROUGHT STRICKEN
© Michaela

A new day dawns
Opening up the front door
Peering out from the porch.
I can tell that today
Is just going to be like yesterday
And the day before that.

No rain in sight,
As I peer above and see nothing but
blue sky for miles around
and feel the warmth of the suns rays.
Mud as hard as rock.
The grass like straw.
I almost forget what normal grass
looks and feels like as I walk beneath it.
The smell of freshly mowed grass.

Tempers of the locals beginning to swell even more
As temperatures continue to soar.
Water restrictions being implemented.
And the fire hazard is bumped up to extreme.

When will the heavens open up again,
Rain for many days.
Crack the drought we're now in.
End the suffering of the farmers and
the others greatly effected.

Will it be tomorrow?
