HISTORY
Scarlet Shade was created
on November 18, 1997 by webmaster Amin
    Mukti ('Torong').
It was intended as a personal web site for Indonesian author Nin,
but at the time she did not involve herself in the creation. The name 'Scarlet
Shade wwwords' was coined by Torong. 'Scarlet' refers to a color (associated
with Nin's soccer team), 'wwwords' represents the fact that the web site contains
words on the world wide web. We did not change the name since, especially
'wwwords' goes well with the policy that as long as it is words we will post
it, regardless of the form (not only stories or poems but also pieces of thought
or parts of a diary). In February 1999, British poet Art
Thomson was given the site over. Art and Nin were site keepers together
    and they asked Steve
Davidson, myself, to come in. By late 2000, we stopped for a while, since
Nin and Art were busy with their own activities and it was difficult for me
to find time to mind the site as before. In August 2001 I moved the site and
made radical changes to get a much simpler look as it does now. I also put
the writers' photos if available. I might not be able to post new writings
regularly as we did in 1999 and 2000, but I will do so in my leisure.
MEMBERS
At first we had difficulties
in reaching agreement about who could post writings at Scarlet Shade.
We have received criticisms, mostly look the same as is recorded in the
    discussion between me and Nin.
The final agreement was written down as our
    code by Art Thomson.
Basically I post works anybody sends me to the site's email address, or by
    an offline contact.
We welcomed everybody and now I continue to hold the same policy.
Among the Scarlet Shade 'members' are real time authors who have their careers
offline as professional essayists, short-story writers, or poets. Some are
part-timers, and many others are amateurs.
We did not make distinctions among them, and so is my principle now.
Our goal is only to provide space and attention for anybody who wants to say
anything, as long as it is not derogatory, pornographic, or abusive. There
are people like us who wants to let things out in the open but usually we
cannot do so for many reasons. Online that will be no big problem.
We welcome any language, although the main language at Scarlet Shade is English
    (British and American).
SITE KEEPER
My name is Steve Richard
Davidson. I used to live in Michigan, United States, and I moved to New York
in March 2001. I am 32 year old, my job is in the computer-related industry.
I am not an author by profession, but I love reading and books.
I do not have great skills and knowledge about webmastering, therefore I welcome
    help and advice.
