Pei Chang is the only
child in the family and due to marriage failure, her
mother commits suicide. Because of this, the
relationship between Pei Chang and her father became
icy. To worsen the matter, after the death of
her mother, he brought home his "lover",
Aunty He. Aunty He was very nice and treats Pei
Chang as her own child but Pei Chang can never accept
her as her mother.
For the love she has
towards her mother, Pei Chang hired a poor but
talented painter, Guo Ping to draw her mother's
portrait. Pei Chang later falls for him and
against her father's wish, they got married.

to be a alcoholic. He often bashed her whenever
he is unhappy and disatisfied with life. He even
resulted Pei Chang having a miscarriage. She
forgives him and for five years, she lead a horrid
marriage bearing the fear and torture.
Under the guidance of
Jia Chiang, Pei Chang left Guo Ping and started her
own life. She was indecisive when Jia Chiang
proposed to her because she thought that of him of
being unattractive and boring compared to her bully
husband. She finally agreed because of his
affection and sincerity.
