The daily life of Hungarian students

Hever Tamas: My typical weekday

I always get up at 610 in the morning, and after I had washed myself, I have some fruits and milk for breakfast. I don’t eat much at home early in the morning I rather take some sandwiches with me to eat them in the breaks between my lessons. So after breakfast I say good-bye to my parents and my dogs and rush to the bus stop to catch my 7 o’clock bus. Yes, I take the bus every morning, since we live 10 km far from the high school, in a village.

I usually arrive at school around 7 25 . Lessons start at quarter to eight, so I still have approximately 20 minutes to glance through what I had to learn the day before. I had 6 classes average. In general I leave school at 2 05 p.m., then I go over to an another high school (about 400m) to have lunch in its restaurant. Our school unfortunately doesn’t have eating-place. After lunch, at 3 o’ clock I have computer -programming class twice a week. Plus German language lessons also twice a week. These are special classes, that I have to pay for.

After these classes I am usually able to catch the 17 35 bus to my village. By the time I get home, my mom always lays the table and warms up the dinner, so this way I can turn into studying later in the evening.

Besides I am also supposed to take care of my two dogs every day (training, feeding them). On weekdays I don’t watch TV, because at school we get a lot of homework every single day. And by the time I finish them up it gets too late. So I rather spend the rest of the night doing some sports. Yes, I like to do training quite late. This is how my biological clock works. I have a pretty good and modern weightlifting equipment at home.

On weekends I usually go out with my friend (sometimes even to a disco), but on weekdays there isn’t any time to do any entertaining stuff with the evening. That’s mainly due to the amount of homework we get daily. Plus I am a senior (12th grader) at my school, so I also have to get prepared for the graduation exam we have in May. And that means lots of studying.

Many of my classmates also take different extra courses in the afternoon to complete their high school education.
