Welcome to my webpage which will briefly summarize the total restoration I'm performing on my 1979 Volkswagen Scirocco. As you will see here, I am stripping the car to nothing and fixing everything that my abilities will allow. This is my first attempt at painting a car so it should be interesting. Wish me luck and I hope you enjoy! Feel free to ask me questions or offer advice at the email address at the bottom of this page.

When i got it
This what the car looked on day one when I picked it up from Daun in Ohio. It looks ok in the picture but the paint is FRIED from sun damage. Check out those Hella lighs!

Left Side
This is a shot of the pass side mostly sanded. Yes, that's bondo I found in the rear quarter.

Inner Fender
Here is a picture of the Drivers side inner wheel well & the rust found within. I'm glad I took this extra step to get this fixed now before I have holes to fix. See below how I'm doing it.

nasty
You can't see it here, but there's rust throughout this pass side inner fender. Luckily, there is not any "rot" yet.

Real undercoating
POR 15 is what I've used to paint this inner fender. This picture doesn't do it justice. I'll eventually do the entire underbody. Rust no more!

Ok that last update was from 10/00. Now its April 30, 2001 and I've finally started painting this sucker. Here's a few pics of the car with Primer. I will have color done in the next two weeks or so... just in time for the Cincinatti Scirocc.org gathering. What you see here is the car right before going into the spraybooth I made and then when it comes out its got a coat of self etching primer and 3 thick coats of high build primer. The doors and hood will be done in the next few days. I hope this inspires somebody because I'm going on no prior knowledge of painting or bodywork.

OK Now its 5/14/01 and I'm reassembling "Michael Jackson." Here are a few pics as the car came out of my homemade paint booth and as I began putting her back together. BOTTOM LINE is that it looks OK. Its no showcar, but I'm pleased!
