"Keep holy the 50th year and proclaim freedom for all the inhabitants of the land."
-Leviticus 25:10

THE JUBILEE in the Biblical sense refers to the Hebrew festival held every 50 years where all debts were to be cancelled, slaves were to be liberated, prisoners were to be released, land and property were to be given to the landless and dispossed.

How then can we have a significant celebration of the Jubilee if majority of the Filipino people are being enslaved by poverty, exploited by foreign powers and local ruling elite, oppressed and marginalized in their own land? In our own time, we are therefore challenged by the Great Spirit of the Jubilee Year 2000 to take part in the people's quest for freedom from foreign control, indebtedness, feudal bondage, land abuse, and slavery.

THE NETWORK. Inpired by the Great Spirit of Jubilee, the network is a living expression of unity among Roman Catholic and Protestant Church heads, leaders and members of church people's organizations, as well as individuals, including the Filipino youth, who hope to have a meaningful celebration of the festival.

THE CALL. As we all aspire for genuine peace, social justice and freedom in our land, the challenge to "Live out the Spirit of the Jubilee: Journey with the people towards a new Jerusalem," is a call to everyone of us who hopes to understand and reflect deeper on the meaning of the Biblical Jubilee.

WHO MAY JOIN THE NETWORK? YOU, and everyone you know are invited to join God's people in a meaningful celebration of the JUBILEE. You and your fellows in a club, organization, council, alliance or society are definitely welcome!

WHAT WE CAN DO? As members of the network, we can build awareness propagate issues related to the meaning of the Jubilee. Through Bible-in-context (BIC) seminars, reflection circles, film showings, fora, symposia, immersion with the urban poor, indigenous peoples, fisherfolks, peasants, workers, child laborers, women and other marginalized sectors, signature campaign, issue advocacy, prayer vigils, and social actions among other means.

WE SHALL CELEBRATE THE JUBILEE!
