top photo: hana and her pretty mommy, kozue, just before going to "mommy and me" class in the park labrea yesterday. bottom photo: hana playing her favorite game of late, "kakurenbo," japanese for hide and seek...she truly thinks she's invisible - even when she's looking you in the face - if she is in one of her "secret zones" (beside her crib or next to the elevator in the hallway).

well, auntie akemi should feel proud! her existence has actually been validated by empress hana! when being carried, we showed hana some pix of auntie's recent wedding, and hana's eyes lit up as she blurted out, "aki...aki...aki...!!!" a preview of recent hana "milestones" soon to be added (when hana's papa has the time): hana loves to chase papa around the apartment with her killer beachball...knows how to navigate the beverly center and find the 'hello kitty' store from virtually anywhere in the mall...says two word sentences (example: 'crayon...nai' which means 'no crayon')...kicks her legs over and over saying 'suri suri' while sitting on sand...called the black sparkly floor at the mall 'appaba,' which regular visitors to this site will recognize as a hana code word for 'star' (see hana's ladder for explanation)...thinks she is completely invisible to her folks when she 'hides' behind deceptive places like the other end of the sofa (even if she's looking you straight in the eye...tricky!)...saw the shadow of our lamp on the ceiling and referred to it as 'mickey' (on inspection, her observation proved to be spot on...it actually did look like mickey mouse)...draws somewhat circular circles while saying 'maru maru' ('circle circle' in japanese)

hana visited descanso gardens with her folks and granny june yesterday. she had a fabulous time running around the hilly terrain and admiring all the pretty camelias. as an added bonus, she got to ride the tiny train that circles the grounds with her daddy (hana loves rides!). the shot on the left shows hana and her mommy hiking up a steep grade, and the one on the right is the little princess on her throne.

hana, granny june, and her mommy and daddy went to the los angeles city museum of arts children's exhibit today and had a blast climbing, painting, running, jumping, exploring, drawing, and swinging around all the kid-centric exhibits and arts & crafts activity centers!also, she received a cute, cute, cute picture holder from granny june's bestest, bestest buddy, kathy bennett (thanks so much!!!)

hana began attending park labrea's "mommy and me" class this week with, surprisingly enough, her mommy. she has proven to be very good at sharing with the other tots. she is learning new words at a faster and faster pace these days (her vocab is approximately 3 times the average for her age, claims her modest daddy): "bootoo," her version of "buta," the japanese word for "pig"..."chii," japanese for "house" ("uchi")..."paada," hana-ese for "panda"..."piano"..."crayon"..."appaba" for star (interestingly enough, this comes from the phrase "up above" from twinkle twinkle little star")...and last but not least, "waaaaa!" (while looking at her own spectacular poopoo), a japanese exclamation somewhat equivalent to the well known english phrase "whoa, look at that one...what a doozee!" also, she loves playing with her "thomas the train" playset that her granny june bought her a couple weeks ago at toys r us. she cheers the little engine along as it struggles up the hilly track, yelling "up, up, up!!!" mr. potato head is another favorite, with hana always providing interesting combinations for the poor spud's face (well, so much for the future career as a reconstructive surgeon). but perhaps her favorite toy of late is her mega lego set, which provides her hours of entertainment as she builds and builds and builds. food-wise, she has become a real umeboshi chazuke addict, as this has become a nightly ritual not to be missed! and finally, we now know that hana loves challenges...she gets totally fixated on fastening her highchair safety belt all by herself! she simply refuses to give up until she hears that satisfying "click"!

here is a shot of hana trying to control her new "hello kitty" umbrella. it's raining cats and dogs in los angeles, so she really needed one. today, hana and her mommy went over to the sung's house to play with their twins, patricia and michaela, who are a little younger than hana. they live in a huge house with a large playroom full of toys. hana is just now trying to learn the concept of colors, but isn't quite there yet. over the weekend, hana and her folks went to j-town and ate lunch at suehiro's. they gave hana a complimentary bowl of rice and tofu!
welcome to the new, improved hana's world! you can still access the old site through the link at the bottom called "hana's archives." hope you enjoy the new fresh look!
