auntie akemi was in town this week, and hana chan had a great time playing with her...but she misses her uncle david, who was busy with work and couldn't come down. boo hoo. potty newsflash: hana has been getting better and better at doing peepee on the potty, but still hasn't quite mastered the art of telling us when she's gotta go...more like a set routine at this point, and if she goes, she goes...if not, then she just tells us "nai" ("I don't have any.") she also just got another load of japanese children's videos from dr. kawazu, who was in town for the same wedding auntie akemi was here for. which is great, because they cost a bundle here in the states! thanks, dr. kawazu! hana has no problem whatsoever with being babysat by her grandma and grandpa...in fact, she LOVES IT! the other day, "g&g" treated auntie akemi and hana's papa and mama to 'the lion king,' and hana had a great time in the interim at arden. hmmmm....maybe this has something to do with the loads of ice cream hana has access to when g&g are around. anyways, thank you g&g for the wonderful time we had at 'the lion king.'

hana's world is back online after a brief pause in which hana's papa got his new web software from amazon.com (sheesh did it take a long time!). we took hana to the larchmont fair last sunday and boy did she have a good time riding the ponies, petting the goats, and riding the twirling swings! although you would never guess from her almost sad looking facial expressions! no mistaking her happiness at seeing the puppies at the mall though! after accustomizing herself to auntie aki's pooches, she really loves all dogs now...no fear whatsoever. recent favorite song: sing...(sing...sing a song...sing out loud...etc) however, hana's rendition incorporates a little improvisation: "sing of happy, not sad" ---> "singonna-ahpeeee, what's dat"

a shot of happy hana in the kitchen helping (?) mommy. she starts many of her sentences these days with "dakara" ("so that's why...) and ends with "deshou?" ("isn't that true?), although she often fills the middle of the sentence with teletubbie talk. she can now also recite the names of her grandma ("atchan") and auntie ("kaori-chan") in japan! and she can sing "grandpa's song" ("let's go for a walk...walk walk") and "auntie reiko's song" ("are you ready? yes i am...one...two....threeeeeeee!") when prompted, so we know her little brain is really associating things. Speaking of which, the other day, hana was in grandma june's car when she insistently repeated the word "donut." nobody had any idea what she was talking about, and dismissed this as her wanting to eat donuts...until an old krispy kreme napkin was spotted on the back seat!

the latest shots of hanachan taken with papa's trusty lomo spy camera. isn't that pigtail hairstyle borrowed from those little jewish kids down the block?!?!

hanachan loves to eat ice...she just crushes ice cubes with her rudimentary molars like an osterizer. so it comes as no surprise that she has mastered the 1991 megahit "ice ice baby" by vanilla ice, which she recites whenever she wants some of the cold stuff. but somewhere along the line in that 2 year old mind, "ice ice baby" morphed into "ice ice DAY-BEE," a reference to hana's beloved uncle david...so naturally, the second verse of the chant has now become "ice ice AKI," short for auntie akemi!

above are some general shots around and about: hana in her cool "number 8" bathing suit she got from her cousin masashi in japan, 2 nice shots of hana and her folks (nice bow legs, papa!), hana doing here "chores" with her new dirt devil, hana with grandpa, grandma, and great grandma fumiko, and finally, a shot of hana's mommy's group of japanese friends she has made at the park labrea (a nice little social outlet for her.)
