Toronto is a major city with major league sports teams, click on the logos to find out more about these teams:
The Toronto Maple Leafs are my favourite NHL team, and even though they have not won the Stanley Cup since 1967, they have won 11 Stanley Cups in their history. Only 1 other team has won more Stanley Cups than Toronto and that is the Montreal Canadiens. 1999 was an historic year for the Leafs, in that they moved from the famous "Maple Leaf Gardens" into their new home at the Air Canada Centre. The 2000 edition of the Leafs played exciting hockey over the 1999/2000 season and made a good run in the playoffs, only to lose to New Jersey Devils in the Quarterfinals (who eventually won the Stanley Cup!! Wait till next year!! You can visit the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
The Blue Jays captured the hearts and souls of Canadian baseball fans, when they won back to back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993. Two Blue Jays pitchers won back to back to back Cy Young Awards, Pat Hentgen won in 1996, and Roger Clemens won in 1997, and again in 1998 (a record 5 Cy Young Awards for Clemens). Now it appears that David (Boomer) Wells (who was obtained in a trade for Roger Clemens) is re-establishing himself as a premier pitcher, going 15 and 2 as of July 9th, 2000 and is a huge part of why the Jays are in first at this point in time!! Boomer will start the 2000 All Star game for the American League. The Blue Jays are the first team in Major League History to have 4 players with at least 20 homers each at the All Star break!!
The Toronto Argos are an exciting football team to watch, and won back to back Grey Cup Championships (emblematic of football supremacy in Canada), in 1996 and 1997. The Argos also play in the Skydome.
The Toronto Raptors are an NBA franchise, and even though they have only been in the league 5 years, they are an exciting team to watch. They moved into their brand new facility, the Air Canada Center, and just finished competing in their first ever playoff round. Unfortunately the New York Knicks proved to be too formidable a foe. This team lead by Vince Carter can only get better!!
