First Encounter

Left Gloucester bus station at 9:00am and headed towards London. Reached London at 12:30pm and rushed off to see Buckingham Palace. We then checked into the Youth Hostel near the Queensway Metro Station. The room was minimal but great, though climbing up to the top bunk required long legs, skill, and nerves of steel (esp. when trying to get back down again!). Did a bit of shopping and had tea, hard to eat because it was only hours to go until the show!!!

Arrived at Her Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket at 7:30pm (Izzy - Rose would have been earlier if we’d had let her!) Bought a program each and sighed over the pictures!!! :-) At 7:45pm the performance started! When reading our experiences please remember we do not know the story or musical at all, apart from masked man, beautiful opera singer, candles and a boat!

ROSE

I thought it was the interval when notes started!!

Annoyed by not being able to see Scott on the chandelier, dam back row seats!

Woman’s head blocked middle of stage so Izzy and I kept banging heads.

Was on the verge of crying at "All I Ask Of You" reprise and at the end of the show :-(

The changes from scene to scene were done amazingly, and great special effects.

The title song down to Erik's layer was so magical and breath taking - where did those candles come from?!

I enjoyed the way the audience was made part of the show.

IZZY

Why is it that you are always sat behind a tall person?

Missed Scott on the chandelier

It was brilliant - though I thought the interval was the end!!!

Want to see it again - on front balcony seats!!

PONR was amazing

Loved the end, nearly cried.

_______

Izzy and I (Rose) kept a look out for Scott whilst waiting for a booked cab, which never turned up: No luck! :-(

But I am  sure that he must have been one of the guys walking past wondering what the hell we were doing!

Mission for next time - to get front row seats and somehow meet Scott!

Update: August 2001

Scott has left Phantom but has been asked to return to the role in the future - which he would like to do!
